Looking for a spot to get down to the amite. Everytime we pass over headed out to bass pro my 9yr old begs me to take him down but I have no idea.

Just looking to hang out with a couple kids. As a kid I remember having a family day out there grilling splashing around in the water and hanging out but have no idea where that was

Anyone know of public access?

There's a launch on Hwy 42 in Prairieville.

About 2 miles past Hwy 44 on the left.

Good launch, self service pay, $5 I think.

Don't recall the name, but look for the boat storage area.

That will put you in about 2 miles north of Freds/Port Vincent.

anywhere to just hang out on the banks if you don't have a boat? we had a spot that we went to as a kid I don't remember ever seeing another person and it seems like it was not deep enough to get a boat thru where we were at

Not that I am aware of. Be careful around the river in wooded areas until after deer season.

I don't know about to just hang out, but there's plenty of places to see the Amite River.

I took my daughter on a little tour one day when she was out of school.

We stopped at that landing on hwy 42 for a few minutes, then we stopped at Freds at Port Vincent.

Then we went down Hwy 16 to the road to that resturant on the right (Bayview? somebody help me out, Diversion Canal), then stopped at Canal Bank at foot of Diversion Canal bridge.

She enjoyed it, and that's saying a lot for a 12 year old girl.

There's a few restaurants on the Diversion that make for a nice setting.

Take him! (but you may end up getting boat fever)

Thanks! We will take a ride and do just that.. Wish I knew where we use to go when I was a kid. Make for a awesome afternoon playing on a sandy riverbank while my dad grilled. From what I can remember it was very pretty and not a person around.. Guess it must have been close to where the i10 bridge is near bass pro

Very shady. If you launch from there, good chance your shite will be broken into. Meth is a helluva drug!

It use to be a nice area to launch and go run trot lines. Guess the meth heads jacked it all up

Is the magnolia Access still open? Had heard it was shut down. That was about 2 years ago, may have not been the case

Lower Amite River has very little access. There are a few private landings i know of, but no public. I like it tho because it keeps it quiet

Yes! I realize this post is a few years old....Came across it when I googled amite river access.
North of Denham near clinton. Its worth the ride out. Also there is a springfed creek that merges into the amite. We take our kiddos to and we grill and post up chairs in the middle of it. If you are interested let me know. I'll give you all the info. We took the kids and kayaked from out spot on the creek and got out at the amite river bridge off greenwell springs rd at grangeville

Every road crossing up there is private land aside from the highway right-of-way. Unless you jump straight off the bridge, you are trespassing.

I'm assuming you are talking about Darlington Creek. You trespassed FYI. Not telling you not to do it, just know the landowners have a right to tow your truck and call the sheriff.

Please pick your trash up. Thanks.
