Just curious if anyone knows the real situation with Godchaux? Is he just having fun, or is he seriously reconsidering his recruitment?

I would like to say he's just having fun, but the way this recruiting class has gone, I honestly have no clue

Search for TeamLSU posts. He seems to have inside info. He says Godchaux is all LSU. Just going on trips with High school teammates. FWIW

Heard the same, just don't understand why one would say I'm opening my recruitment back up, instead of I'm going to take a few visits, if that's the case.

It's possible that to take these visits, with other uncommited friends especially this late in the cycle, that he had to make that statement to be able to make the visit. It is also possible that even if the school(s) didn't say that, he felt that way. Not saying that's the case... just saying it is one of other possible explanations.

What his real feelings/intentions are boils down to how honest is he being to Staff and those outside his immediate circle. After 1/2/14, I no longer just assume a recruit is honest. I, personally, am going with what the guy (mentioned above) who talks to Godchaux said. And that is that he just wants to take visits. If he's being lied to, I won't hold it against him.

Probably just didn't think people would over-analyze exactly how he phrased it. He says he still considers himself a LSU commit.

I wonder if there's a thread about him a little below this thread.

Idk, but a possibility is that UCLA tells him, we don't want to pay for this unless you're serious, so he's pretending to be serious?

Yes...you get better treatment when not committed or if others know you are in doubt. Pile up with your buddy an go to a college campus for a free weekend? Who wouldn't?

and LSU might fill his spot while gone for the weekend. Not a risk that I would take, but it's not my life

true. Malik McDowell will be visiting the same day he's at UCLA (24th), and it's the last visiting day so limits may be close by that day.

I don't give us a chance in hell of getting McDowell, so not much risk for Godchaux. However, anything is possible. Like Carter (visiting 17th) and McDowell being on-board when that visit happens.

People reading into situation too much. The kid wants to see some other campuses and I don't blame him. Who doesn't want to go chill in LA for a weekend in January?

How can somebody with the last name Godchaux not play at a Louisiana school?

just to be clear, so some that come after you don't get the wrong idea...

A) he has not committed to another school
B) he is still considered committed to LSU

side note:
after this cycle I think we should drop the word "committed" and start using "verbal". Committed might be way to strong of term for what we witness. And not just LSU btw, LSU is looking to flip several recruits FROM other schools.

He's just going on as many paid vacations as he can. I know if I was a high school kid and several colleges were offering me a free trip to and from a college to stay for a few days to see the sights and sounds I would go on all trips offered me regardless of whether or not I was interested in that school while I could even if I was set on where I wanted to go (whether publicly known or secretly known by me).

Sadly common sense is not very common. Think of it this way, if you worked for a business and that business offered you a list of seminars, training courses or whatever in various major cities in the US that you could go on that were all paid for (room, meals, plane tickets and the whole nine yards) that you could go to of which none would be factored into your salary and you wouldn't be impacted financially or counted against vacation/sick days at all AND you could go to every one if you wanted to... Would you go to only one or as many as you could? Do not factor in variables such as living/family situation ie wife and kids, etc. into the your choice. Only the opportunity to travel and experience things you wouldn't have otherwise. Would you go on one, two, all or none?

The problem with this is it lacks many additional details.

1. LSU has a scholarship limit.
2. Godchaux suffered a serious injury and LSU stuck by him.
3. During this recruiting cycle apparently several kids have blatantly lied to LSU coaches about their intentions. Thus LSU coaches would be wise to consider a player still taking visits as uncommitted.
4. Godchaux plays a position that is a desperate need in this class and it's getting late in the process to be sure that need is filled.

Looking at it while considering these added factors it's easy to say that he may not be making the best decision by taking the visit. It also shows that the situation is not as simple the picture your post paints.
