I think Franklin may surprise some people.

Granted I don't know that much about Franklin. I think he is more than qualified to coach there and be successful, but I am not sure his personality will mesh in State College.

He is about to put the DC/Bmore area on lock down recruiting. Back in the old days Penn State got all the top DC area kids and the left overs were for everyone else.

Not the point I was trying to make. I think he will be able to recruit, but not sure his personality will mesh with the Paterno crowd. Just like Strong is already(rumored) having problems at Texas.

What personality problems do you see? I'm not an expert on Franklin's personality or the culture at PSU. I thought this was a really good hire based on what I've seen Franklin do at Vandy.

He's a very good coach, but I think the sanctions are really going to take effect 3 to 4 years from now

The problem is that he is very detail-oriented. He is a micro-manager. I see a lot of decisions rubbing the Paterno fans the wrong way.

Like I said previously, I don't know a lot about Franklin but I just don't see him as a Penn State kind of coach. Does not mean he will not be successful. IMO he seems like a loose cannon which might rub some of the old school Joe Pa fans the wrong way.

Much like Nick doesn't mesh well with the UA crowd?

I'd rather have a coach who pisses off some uppity boosters and wins. Than a sunshine pumper who can only win 8 or 9 games.

I don't know if Nick meshes with any crowd.

To hell with them, they are in the minority. Most of us level headed fans understand the difference. My only Franklin concern was the sabotage rumors.

So how much did vandy make off the buyout?

The buyout value is unknown. There haven't been any mentions of it either that I have seen. I doubt the value will ever be disclosed unless PSU does or if someone looks closely enough at either Vandy or PSU's tax reports.

I read where they've already reduced some of the scholarship restrictions, and haven't ruled out reducing them further (I think PSU folks feel good that they will). Here is a link that talks about it:
