No. And I don't think these guys are faking injuries, but I do think there's a tendency to sorta "pull up lame". And it leads to more hapless problems. More opportunities to get injured. And most of all, the lack of a drive to play for a lame duck team. Everybody on this roster knows there's less and less hope here. It's time to punt.

I swear to god, if Monty isn't fired before next season, I may jump ship.

If Monty isn't fired after this season the franchise is doomed. I bet Monty will also try to convince dell to give Roberts 4/40mil extension.

I agree to a certain extent. His moves haven't been awful at all, but fair to say he hasn't built much in 3 years.

Demps getting a complete free pass here while Monty is blamed for every flaw is baffling to me.

If we want to say Demps is in asset gathering mode, fine. Judge the team's performance as an unfinished product too.

Pelicans have 3 ball dominant guards with bad habits and one of the worst collections of defensive talent in the league. Of course there will be ball movement and defensive problems. This isn't too say Williams is safe. The schemes need (a lot of) work to fit the talent. But the talent provided isn't making his job any easier.

Does anybody realize the Pels are 9-5 when our five all star balloters all play? Thats a .643 winning percentage, which would put the Pelicans squarely in fifth place in the West. So, yea I think the injuries "bought monty another year." This team's good when healthy.

Which is hardly ever and this predates Monty. I honestly believe the organization has to overhaul the training and medical staff. That being said I say can Monty and give Dell one more season. If things are still bad complete front office overhaul and pray we can convince AD that this is a team that can be competitive.

so if Monty got a pass this season and if his players get injured again then you'd give him another one?

Honest question, because I'm not sure. Does anyone know for a fact that the Pelicans' "medical staff" has the same personnel as the Hornets' "medical staff"?

I'm glad that a 14 game sample size is more accurate to you than a 4 season sample size.

14 is a bigger number than 4 after all.

I should have made my point more clear. I was simply saying that the Hornets and now Pelicans have been plagued by injuries since the team arrived in the city. If in fact the "medical staff " is the same personnel they most assuredly need to be fired. Even if this "medical staff" has been around only for the Monty era, they need to be fired.

It is real impressive to still see Monty supporters in this thread, especially after seeing this team getting slammed for the fourth straight game.

Monty sucks he will not be the coach next year and you can take that to the bank

Wouldn't call the last minute/no-call loss vs. Dallas being "slammed"

Demps is probably one of the better GMs in this league. Not sure who you think you'd get to replace him.

And those wins have mostly come against losing teams. If he needs superior talent to win then what purpose does he serve?

quote:

Nine of those fifteen games occurred on the road. In addition, six of the fifteen came against current teams slotted for the playoffs (San Antonio, Golden State, @ Clippers, Portland Home-and-Away, @ Houston) and an additional two came against teams on the cusp in the much more competitive Western Conference (Denver, @ Minnesota).

As of January 10th, the combined record of opponents over this stretch is 279-267. All of this is to say that against a relatively difficult schedule (over half are playoff teams or battling as such, over half on the road, combined winning record) the Pelicans posted a .600 winning percentage -- good enough for the sixth seed in the Western Conference in the past three seasons. Their only home loss with their "big three" was at home on the back half of a back-to-back against Golden State at the last second.

quote:

Diving even farther into the numbers, of those six losses, three were games that were not decided until the final minutes.

Echo chamber of this board is out of control.

Monty has clear flaws, but do you know an NBA coach that can win without talent?

I'm not echoing anything. We have beaten 2 (at the time) over .500 teams, Denver and Portland. Correct or incorrect? Basically we've beaten a bunch of teams that we're better than and largely not beaten teams better than us. There is something to be said about winning the ones you should, but I think what I stated is pretty accurate, This team this year with Monty as coach has proven that they are very unlikely to win unless they have a talent advantage. If the talent is what's winning, then what is the coach doing?

I get why you defend Monty so much on this board because many of the attacks against him are confirmation bias, we lose, Monty made X calls I disagree with, therefore this loss is 100% on Monty. But my jumping off the Monty bandwagon is coming from a very different place.

quote:

do you know an NBA coach that can win without talent?

Popovic. I'd say Thibs and Carlisle have done pretty well with what they've had. I don't think Monty's a terrible coach, I just think he's had ample opportunity to show he's special and failed. Why do we want to keep an ordinary coach around? When hiring coaches last time look at the candidates we had to choose from. No legit coach wanted to touch a team headed for a rebuild. If we fired Monty this offseason I think you'd still have a pretty thin candidate pool. Karl is interested because the roster suits him, and that's why I think it's time for a change. Karl can make this team a playoff team and once we are there, if he can't get it done you've proven yourself enough to attract the other proven coaches. This team has 6 years or so to build a contender around Davis, if Monty's not the guy, you have to move on, whether that's hiring Karl or even taking a chance on another assistant or college coach.
