Josh, I'm confused. I haven't a clue. I've never tried doing such.
What was confusing? I'd be happy to clarify. In short, what's the best card that, instead of using points to purchase nights at hotels up front, you purchase the nights as you normally would, and then use points to remove the charge? That way, I could pay for the hotel on the hotel's site, use my corporate discount code, and then use points to wipe out the charge, hopefully at a decent bonus rate as it would be considered "travel".

Arrival+ IMO 2.2% return.
Another one similar would be Capical One Venture but that's 2% and at that point you have 2% cash back cards(citi double cash/fidelity amex) which are effectively the same thing.
Arrival has a higher fee by $30 but no foreign transaction fees, TripIt Pro and Credit score. Also $25 increment redemptions as opposed to Cap One's requirement to cover the whole purchase. Of course, you need to put enough on it to make up for that fee, therefore that is why if you aren't using Arrival+ enough I think a no fee 2% card is the way to go arithmetic wise, unless those benefits have $89 worth of value to you.
Eta: it's at least worth getting for the bonus of course

MY wife got denied the Club Carlson card. First denial.
So, we're freezing her ARS and IDA credit accounts and going to try again in 6 months or so.
For those interested in card, check out this site before you apply. It's a great card to travel Europe with. Probably the best IMO.

Sounds like gaming the system to me. I don't know of any card that allows you to use points after the fact to get a refund on a room that you've subsequently gotten a discount on and then get a discount on the points used.
You're stretching it on this one IMO.

Unless I'm misunderstanding how cards like the Arrival redeem (i.e. after the fact) how much I paid for the room should be irrelevant:

So let's say I log into the Roosevelt New Orleans website and use my corporate code to reduce the advertised rates on a room from $250 per night to $199. I then purchase two nights. On my (hypothetical) Arrival points redemption page, that would show up simply as a $400ish charge from the Roosevelt. The fact that I used a corporate code should be irrelevant, n'est-ce pas? And if so, I could then use my Arrival points, including the 10% travel bonus, to wipe out the charge.

Merry Christmas!
I'm about to drop all 180k Marriott points on a 5 night stay in Puerto Rico on a post deployment trip for me and the wife. These things have been burning a hole in my pocket for a while.

Glad you made it home safely
Was a good year for my Amex... I spent more on my Amex than my Annual Salary
Merry Christmas everyone!

They usually make you pay the fee at signup so you can't get the bonus' and then immediately cancel.
Some cards waive the fee for the first year and in these cases, you can get the signup bonus and cancel the card before the year runs up and you have to pay the fee
