More of a MS question than rewards but it looks like I will be 11k-12k short on spending this year on my Amex. Any thoughts on how I could make that kind of hurdle before the year ends? I want that other 15k mqm's

I would have suggested the Prepaid Target Redcard or Amex Serve, but problem is since those are Amex products, Amex credit cards don't earn points when you load them with it directly off the CC.
However, you could still get one of those products and load via buying GCs with PINS. Take those GCs and load at either Target/Walmart (depending on product). Each GC you buy is going to set you back $6.95 at most but that may be worth it to you.
Check FT and read up on:
Amex for Target (if available in your state)
Prepaid Target REDcard by Amex (if available)
Amex Serve (if you have T-Mobile, ATT or Verizon download Softcard app THEN sign up for Serve as you get higher load limits each month) If you don't just get regular Serve by registering online.
FT Boards
Stores that sell $500 GCs

I'm about to downgrade Ink Plus
I just got my Ink Plus this weekend. It surprises me, I honestly claimed my business was my rec-league soccer team and that I gross about $1500 annually in player fees. Ink gave me a $40K credit limit.
Time to go get those miles now.

You could have put $0 and still gotten that credit limit. They are just going off your personal credit anyways. Its kinda stupid.
I'm only downgrading Ink Plus to avoid the fee because I have Ink Bold as well.

I guess so. But I got under the wire for the 70k points offer so now is a great time to go replace my carpets, something I've been waiting on. It's, uh, for my home office.

Earning points doesn't matter to me. It's all about the spend. Can I take cash out with the gift cards I buy?

If the points don't matter, I have read that Amex does count the spend for spend thresholds like the one you need to meet, but I have no personal experience with it.
And ya, once you load the card there are ways you can "cash out."
I usually just pay off one of my other credit cards with the manufactured funds, thereby not using my checking account cash, but I do frequently withdraw funds from Amex Serve into my Chase Checking account that pays my mortgage.

So, can you guys help me understand how the Barclay's World Arrival reimburses for travel? If I book flights for say $1000, how do they determine the point value of the $1000 cost, is it a points per dollar equivalent?
I'm looking at finally using my spending to book flights and I'm now thinking I need to book the cheapest flights I can to use the least amount of rewards points I can. Am I thinking about that right?
Also, can you guys tell me what you are doing? Buying gift cards to get rewards points?

This is confusing me and if I answer it wrong I'll confuse you, so I'll just write an explanation below.
quote:

Yes. Every point you earn is worth 1 cent. Therefore, a $100 flight would cost you 10,000 points to offset it. A $1,000 flight will cost 100,000 points. A $2,000 flight would cost 200,000 points, and so on. Formula: COST PER TICKET/.01 = POINTS REQUIRED
It has been mentioned in this thread that since other cards are "better" when the cost per ticket gets high, that the sweet spot for Barclay's redemptions are usually for domestic coach or cheap economy international tickets. Basically, I'd say anything south of approx. $1,000 is Barclay card territory. Your Barclay points are always worth the same amount at all times, and you always earn 2x points per purchase.
A plus benefit is that you get 10% of your points back when you redeem them. You MUST purchase the ticket with your Barclay's card. Once it hits your statement, you would, in this example, redeem 100,000 points for a $1,000 ticket, you would then not owe that $1,000 and would get 10,000 points refunded back into your account to use on other travel transactions, which is neat.

There are some explanations earlier in this thread and all over the internet. Typing out a explanation would take a looooong time and isn't for amateurs. Can be risk involved if you don't know what you're doing.

For meeting this quick spend, I would go through a shopping portal and buy AMEX gift cards. Then when they arrive at your door in two days you would use an Amazon Local card reader.

Hello all
Looking to get a credit card for my wife to help her continue to build credit. She was doing pretty well before we got married but now everything is in my name creditwise. I currently have a Capital one visa signature that is rarely used (was my first one) and now a Barclay world elite (which I like a lot).
We like the rewards with the Barclay card but thought it'd be silly to own 2 of them (she's authorized user on my barclay card anyway). Should I look at the capital one venture? An AMEX card? I kinda like the idea of her building up points for travel too.
Neither of us really travel for business and we're not small business owners - vacation only. If I have to get her one with an annual fee i dont want to spend more than $90 or so per year.

Ya, I've just done US Airways 50k targeted offer and Southwest 50k targeted.
Nothing particularly exciting out there publicly that hasn't been out there for awhile

If youre just trying to build her credit, get a no fee card.
There are two cash back cards that offer 2% everywhere. One by Citi and Fidelity Amex.
If the Barclays card is working for yall then just keep it going with her as the authorized user, while she occasionally uses her no fee card to keep it active.
If you're trying to leverage her applications for rewards via sign up bonuses, there is info in this thread and on travel blogs.

Forgot to mention. You probably have already gotten the British airways card because that's your preferred method, but they now have first year free no annual fee for 50k points. So if it's been two years or your wife hadn't gotten one there ya go

Discover It $150 sign up bonus (with $750 spend in 3 months) is back. LINK
Not only did I not know that the Discover Card could be used at ATMs but didn't know there's locations where you aren't changed a fee. I could seriously leave my debit card at home now. I get refunded ATM fees and receive a dividend from my Credit Union every month if I do 15 debit card transactions a month. From shortly browsing locations, it looks like CVS, Winn-Dixie, Credit Unions, and some convenience stores are good to to. This is awesome.

SIAP, but any thoughts on the new Citi double cash card? Seems pretty straightforward way to get 2% cash back, which I haven't seen (and I have really missed) since my old Charles Schwab Visa card.

Is it not considered a cash advance?
Posted on 11/5/14 at 2:29 am to BACONisMEATcandy
Possibly but I don't know how that shite works. Wouldn't matter as long as you pay off your statement though right?
ETA: looks like you're right. Goshdarnit

I think it's a good card.
If you simply want cash back without thinking, 2% every where is not a bad deal at all.
