Good to know. Just an fyi if you are going to pull the trigger do it before the end of the year so you get the $200 airline voucher for 2014 and then again on 1/1/15.

Just as an update to a previous question of mine concerning the frequency of 100,000 point Amex Platinum offers
Just got one of these in the mail and was coming here to read up on them. The $450 yearly fee is a bit much imo, I'm not sure how much use I would get out of the lounge access and concierge.

It's $250 after the airline vouchers.

I want to say someone posted that idea on FT somewhere.

It's as if you're never the first

Yeah I'm sure others have done it. Seems easy enough. I went to start a fan duel account and saw the CC option...always gets me thinking of exploitation

The app o Rama i would like to do would have about $18k spend. I think I could do several different sites at $3-5k each and knock out a good chunk fairly effortless. I'll probably play a bit and let it sit for a couple months. The cash outs are done via PayPal in 2-3 days.

Food for thought.

i have a question:

I'm planning on visiting somewhere in the Caribbean with my wife in the next year or two. I don't have any ties to any airlines currently because I don't travel much. Is there a card that I should get in the near future that can give me a large bonus to offset the cost of the flight?

I was thinking of a Chase Ink card for the large bonus and the ability to transfer to several different airlines (or so I've read..I don't have any experience using points for flights)

Or would it be better to get a card that would give me a free companion ticket? I'm not even sure what airline we'd be flying at this time...hell I don't even know my exact destination yet....I just don't want it to sneak up on me

Any suggestions are welcome.....I already have the barclays card and I have a lot of credit on it that I'll use for some of the travel expenses.

Where do you live?

Flying coach or premium?

American offers 12.5k one way fares in coach from anywhere in US during the fall.
LINK
One card gets you 2 RT flights, free baggage, and 2 admirals passes for your layover.

The Chase Ink card(35k points for RT to Caribbean on United) is a great card, but it gets you the same thing the Citi AA(25k on AA during fall) card gets you without the free luggage and more spend....unless you are going to the Bahamas or Jamaica and then transferring to British Airways Avios(transfer partner of Chase) is a cheap option. Anything further out than Bahama/Jamaica and might as well find another award option.

Last time I was looking AA had more options for Caribbean destinations. I actually flew it to SXM last year.

Do yall know of any other good forums besides FT and myfico? It seems people are starting to shy away from FT because of the popularity and bloggers. Not to mention the recent crackdowns on the Blue have people paranoid.

I've read supposedly people have moved more to private groups but I'd have no idea how to join one online.

I'd also bet we don't have much of a chance for personal meet ups either. From reading the experiences on FT, I never have the problems they do due to awareness by merchants. Leads me to believe there aren't many of us around LA

True...I don't think I have a shot at some of the private groups. On a side note, it does seem that there are a few of us local here in BR so maybe we should have a meet and greet I may even share my gas stations that will let me buy the VR's...ask for Iris

I've crossed a few articles stating the same.

I agree.

I don't think it's as bad as it's being made out to be. I believe the people who are getting shut down were blowing it out of the water.

I use my blue often for a lot of different legit spend. I might buy $400 worth of groceries/week for a tailgate or kegs. I try to swipe it often for legit spend (>20 transactions/month). I also bought $4k worth of gift cards last month from grocery stores and CVS. Probably have about $200 cash back coming on next statement. If they shut me down, I'm gonna be pissed .

I didn't even hit my full Freedom bonus last quarter. Probably did about $700 of legit gas spend.

Boarding area employs so many bloggers, that if it's getting mentioned publicly, it's likely going to end up there. Don't really know of any other forums though.

I dont know a lot about this points game, so I wanted to make sure before I spend them all on a trip. I have a capital one venture card that ive been using for about 3 years. I have a little over 200k points that im about to cash in on a trip. Is there anything better i can do with them as far as transferring or anything like that? Thanks in advance.

Nice.
Where are you going?
Are you open to getting another card?

The Venture card is great for paying for ancillary expenses such as hotel dining/excursions/parking/transport/airbnb.

The reason I ask if you are open to getting another card, instead of burning $2k points on flights/hotel, you could likely get another CC that will pay for your flights and/or lodging.

I'm not opposed to getting another one. I already have the southwest one. I used the 50k points for flights to disney for the trip we are taking this Christmas. I plan to use my cap one points to pay for other things on the trip. Just wanted to make the most out of them.
