need some help on Wade Richey

i remember growing up in louisiana and seeing him play vs Barbe circa 1992/1993 and i remember people at the game telling stories about how he was a legend and could kick them 70 yards in practice.

i could be wrong but i remember him attempting a 65 yarder before half against Barbe and it hit the goal post. thats always stuck with me as one of the most incredible things ive ever seen.

can anyone confirm the lengendary stories of him or were they all BS? i thought he was pretty good IMO

He was mediocre at his very best at LSU, but had a nice NFL career.

He was no John Corbello, that's all I have to say.

I was at that game (although very young at the time). My recollection is that the kick was just short, so it didn't actually hit any part of the post or crossbar.

I was at that Barbe game and he attempted a 60 or 61 yd field goal that came up like a foot or two short.

He was on the same team as Faulk right?

Yeah, I never once saw a Richey for Heisman shirt.

He was kinda a head case LSU, inconsistent and always changing everything, shoes, socks, etc., to try and get it together, IIRC.

The Golden Toe from Carencro!!!!

He pulled his hamstring during his first fall camp at LSU. never recovered mentally from that to kick right again while in school.

I went to HS with him. I saw him hit mid sixty yarders in practice all the time, but he never made one in a game. I believe his long at CRO was low 50's. He was HS All American and ESPN did a piece on him his senior year so he was definitely very highly regarded coming out of HS.

Dinardo had him kicking traditional style. He was a soccer style kicker in HS. So, at LSU he was very inconstiant. Once he went to San Fran, they let him kick the way he was use to and had a pretty good career. He did have a live leg

Any high school phenom that makes the league is truly a legend. All the stories are real, dont let the truth get in the way.

I remember Dinardo trotting him out to try a 64 yard FG on the last play 1997 Auburn game that we lost, and the buzz that went through the stadium.

It got blocked.
