The Tiger coach passed away in the Air accident Such a shame

Who knows what would have been different?

He would only be 68 if he were still alive today. RIP

Was as sad day, not only for the loss of his life but for the trickle down effect it had on LSU football-kinda started the downward spiral. Who knows what he would've done as HC but I'm almost certain it would've turned out better than Stovall, Archer, & Hallman.
RIP Bo

Unfortunate for sure, but perhaps nothing would have been much different.

He most likely would not have stayed on very long.

Just learned this about him:

By all accounts, Robert Edward "Bo" Rein was a star. He was a star shortstop/left fielder at Ohio State where he helped lead the Buckeyes to the College World Series championship game in 1965 (a loss to Arizona State) and 1966 (a victory over Oklahoma State). He was drafted by the Cleveland Indiana and eventually advanced to the Triple-A level.

I do a little creative writing on the side (for my own entertainment) and I recently started a short story about Bo Rein's career as LSU's head coach.
In my imagination, he was a great one.
RIP, Bo.

It was such a tragedy. But Crystal-Balling it, I think if he had any kind of real success at LSU, he would be off to the Big 10 pretty quickly. The SEC was good but in the early 80's the networks were ALL about the Big 10 and Notre Dame.

Relative to today, SEC and southern schools in general were still considered backwoods and coached by Jed Clampett's cousin. That's a bit dramatic but you get the idea.

Once SEC schools started to get on TV more, players stayed home rather than freeze to get on TV up north.

remember that well....was tending bar in Carolina back then and many of the locals were NCSt alums and when the news broke there were a lot of sad folks. I had high hopes for him at LSU cause he had done a very good job for the Wolfpack. it was one of those 'twilight zone' moments. they knew who they had lost and I knew LSU was again thrown into the breech. very sad occurance.

Were any FAA or NTSB investigation reports ever issued?

Didn't it have to do with cabin pressure? Sorta like what happened to Payne Stewart.

Also, wasn't Rein taken over a young Bobby Bowden? Didn't know all the details on that story.

Maybe, but the way it was explained to me is that it was company policy that the plane never flew without two pilots. That night it had one. Also, like commercial airliners it was equipped with masks that would drop down when the pressure decreased to a dangerous point.

Contrary to general policy the investigators would not cooperate with the owner of the airplane. He finally became so frustrated that he hired how own private investigators.

That is all I know.

Pretty sure it was the REC. (LOL)

RIP. There is a reason they ask you 20 different ways if you own or have access to a plane on life insurance applications. My sister was a small plane pilot until she got lost one day and had to make an Emergency landing in Texas. I basically lost on it in a cessna

Remember the story well. As I recall, he was returning from a recruiting trip in NW Louisiana. They took off for BR and the plane kept on flying on a northeasterly course. Somewhere over the east coast an AF fighter was scrambled to go up and observe. According to the pilot, he could look down into the lighted cockpit and observe the two sitting in the cockpit, obviously not moving having lost consciousness from oxygen deprivation. The AF aircraft followed them a distance out over the Atlantic, at which time it went down into the water. Very sad.
