This is a cool article I just read. It ranks the 16 BCS national champs. They don't give LSU much cred though

Of course not. The analysis is far too simple when they start off by saying "the only champion with two losses." Really? Their analysis didn't go any further than 2>1>0? Yawn.

you could make a case for #1 overall in terms of how badly they beat some really good teams.

but in terms of eyeball test, the offense may take them down to #2 or #3

Had to be number 1. We beat the Big East Champion who also won the Orange Bowl, the Pac 10 Champ who won the Rose bowl, as well as the SEC East Champion. We also had to play a team ranked #2 in the nation at the time we played them 4 times. Who else would have had a better resume.

Oregon and Arkansas were both #3 when we played them

Trying to be objective here...It's hard to argue too much with where LSU is on that list. the 2003 team might be moved up a couple spots into the top 10 based on that defense alone, but our offense was nothing to write home about. We won with Matt Mauck at QB, a pure game manager at best. We lost to Florida in a game where our offense didn't put any points on the board (I think we only scored on a punt return).

My rankings would be similar that Miami team was unreal with: Ed Reed, Clinton Portis, Johnathan Vilma, Shockley, Sean Taylor, Andre Johnson, Winslow Jr, Dorsey tons of NFL studs.

That team would not have existed without Nevin Shapiro

12. 2003 LSU (13-1): Then coached by Nick Saban, LSU was able to get into the championship game only after Oklahoma lost to Kansas State in the Big 12 championship game. But outside of a loss to Florida, the Tigers had little trouble during the regular season. Not a legendary team, but a very, very good one.

So the only reason we played Oklahoma and beat them was b/c they lost in the BIG12 Championship game?
I think every lineman on both sides of the ball made it to the NFL and actually played.

and this FSU team being ranked 5th is hilarious.

4. 2011 Alabama (12-1): How did this team lose a game? After stomping LSU in the BCS championship game, it's hard to imagine how the Tide could have lost to the Tigers at home during the regular season. This team was outstanding.

So outstanding that it took them two times to win. Not even the SEC champions. I will always hate Oregon State for that season.
