I'm looking to get one within the next few days. I like the standard profile with some room underneath in the truck bed. Wasn't sure if there were any brands in particular that I should stay away from.

Getting line-x'd as we speak

I have been pleased with my RDS. It isn't what you are looking for though. It has a 51 gallon diesel tank on the bottom and about a 11" deep tool box on top. Sits down on the bed of the truck but it is damn nice having 88 gallons of diesel on hand for a long trip.

I've got a steel RKI. Has two locks on the side, and can't be pried open like an aluminum one. I needed a steel one for all of the weight I put in the toolbox. The aluminum ones I have used sag under the weight(prolly 250-300lbs)

Bolted some D-rings on the face of it for tie-down points also

Don't get the Kobalt one from Lowes...Kobalt stuff is not made very well and mine had issues with the latches over time...I had a UWS on one of my trucks and that thing took a beating and worked great..

Dont buy a Kobalt.

Buy a Weatherguard, UWS, or Knaack

UWS has stood out so far from what I've researched...lots of good feedback.

I had a UWS low profile one which came powder coated black and I loved it. Appears they have a couple of lines at least though since my BIL bought a similar one, but mine appeared better. The top of mine bowed up like they prestressed it then filled it with foam. You could see the injection points underneath it. My BILs is just flat. IDK.

CamLock or Weatherguard if you can spend $$$$, UWS if you don't. I've had two UWS and they've been awesome.

The Kobalt ones are a total joke. Soft as a coke can.

They're okay. My cousin had one and it wasn't bad, wasn't great. For the money, go buy a UWS.

Do you suggest getting it installed or doing it yourself? I want it bolted onto the rails not just clamped with j hooks.

Weatherguard boxes come with proprietary mounting systems. I have always used 4 large nuts and bolts with washers for the corners and two self-tapping bolts in the middle on mine, but like I said, I carry a lot of weight in my box

FWIW, Weatherguard is sold at Tractor Supply

Do it yourself either way. But the two I bought new, the store installed for me for free.

I bought one off Craigslist years ago for my first truck and installed it myself. Wasn't bad. I drilled and bolted to rail.

Where my dad got his. I think he was asking about the tractor supply brand ones though. Maybe not.

I had a UWS chest type. I liked it because you could not see it unless you were right next to the truck. It was a solid box.

That's why I like my steel RKI. One of the best boxes on the market honestly. I got it from another poster a year or so back, and the thing was a few years old then. Still works 100% like new
