He's not a wing player in my opinion. He would at least get fouled and to the free throw line some, I think we're wasting him on the wing. He and JOB down low could cause a lot of problems.

He's a 3 but still raw. He'll develope. Mickey is a better option at the 4 than Martin.

Well he isn't great at free throws or post defense. He doesn't do other things well that you need from a 4. I'm sure he will get better but to play him over mickey down low would be criminal.

Because thats not his position.

This kid really reminds me of an unpolished Carmelo Anthony.

Not even close to being as good. But can be.

I wasn't suggesting he was a 4. I was merely posting in regard to the OP. I think the kid will get better at the 3, but it'll take time.

His jumper looks broke... No where close to Melo. Melo single handily won Syracuse a ship his freshman year.

It looks like Martin leans to the left while shooting instead of squaring up to the basket.

I would spot him some down low... he's not giving us anything on the wing, he's not taking people off the dribble either. Couldn't hurt at this point, we could run some plays on the baseline to get him some three looks too.

He needs to be playing with the 2nd team, he is constantly not where he needs to be on offense and defense. A lot of the time he's running around with a lost look on his face or standing around confused it seems.

He doesn't play sound defense and tries to over compensate using his length instead of playing in front of his man. He has the physical tools to play the game, he's just not ready mentally.

Martin needs some time to where he's moving instinctively instead of out there thinking about where he needs to be.

I don't think it matters where he plays. The speed of the game is too much for him at this point. Class B white boys and SEC polished juniors and seniors are very far from one another.

Well he is just a freshman and he missed a couple of games....guess it's hard to be patient, I'm expecting more than we've shown the last two games.

Because your best and most consistent player to date, Mickey, is down low with JOB. Certainly you can't suggest giving some of Mickey's minutes to Martin.

Martin could be a very tough matchup at the 3. However, in his current role he is of very little benefit to this team. 6'9 guys with good size and the ability to take people off the dribble from the wing are tough to find. That potential is what made Martin a 5 star prospect. 6'9 guys with avg shooting ability who just hang around the perimeter and never pressure defenses are a dime a dozen.

I don't know if it's a lack of effort, a feeling of uncertainty that comes with being a young player, poor offensive design by the coaching staff (probably equal parts of all three) or what, but LSU would be better off with Coleman at the 3 right now, at least until CJJ can figure out how to best utilize Martin at the 3.

Excellent points. The raw talent is there, but right now his contribution to the team on a nightly basis is pretty minimal

Martin played some time at 4 last night. You probably didn't notice because when you put him down low he disappears. I agree with his size you'd assume he can play down low, but he doesn't have the mean streak of a bash brother like you need in the paint.

He definitely is our best option. I also don't understand how Malone doesn't see the court. I feel he is a better option on the court with JOB or Mickey. On offense he can help spread the floor and let JOB or Mickey play down low. I understand he's a bit of a defensive liability but whenever you're down 15 points and you can't seem to buy a bucket you have to do something else to try and get a spark on offense.

I think some are underestimating how tough playing down low is

you can't just stick a kid down there and expect production

So... what happens to Mickey then?

He's kind of our best player.

If LSU relearns how to shoot from three point range I still think we get to 11-12 wins. Not sure at this point if that's enough to make us tournament bound, but still right where I thought we would get to... Read my latest article under new at the bottom of the page and I highlight alot of things on the game and why it isn't as bad as it looked.

Disappear, I remember turning to my father at the game with me and saying, "Martin is a zombie out there right now, he's got the talent but just doesn't instinctively know where to be when. It is just making him look even more lost."

He will be a great player if he keeps working hard, but as of right now he's still a project.
