I'm looking into buying one of these guns without firing one. Amazingly I haven't found a bad review on one but wanted to ask the OB's opinion.

The one i'm looking at is the CZ 75 compact. This will be a plinker and occasional winter ccw. Chambered in 9mm-14+1- SA/DA trigger

It's an all steel gun that is, from what i've read, an accurate and soft shooter.

I find it odd that this is a world renowned gun yet they are pretty uncommon in the US, which raises a bit of a red flag. Like I said though, I can't find a bad review on the thing

First gun I ever purchased was a Satin Nickel CZ 75B .40SW handgun. I still own it to this day and would never consider selling it. It is by far the least expensive handgun I own, but it's a quality firearm that I would highly recommend to anyone.

Buy CZ with confidence!

I have never held one, but bought one based on web reviews alone. I got the 75B SA in 9mm. My 452 bolt .22 rifle is probably my favorite firearm. Makes me wish I never bought a Ruger 10/22.

love my cz-85. Pretty much same thing as the 75 but with a few useless features. Plan on buying on adding a 75 in the future. One negative is that not everyone sells them so you can't do much shopping around for the best price. IIRC, it is the most used firearm in the world used by LEO.

I got a CZ75 Omega over christmas and it is amazing! The new omega system is very nice. The SA is better than the regular B models. I have fired over 500 rounds since christmas and have not had a single malfunction with Brass Maxx or White Box. I'll post up some pics later.

Check out these reviews.

They are a very soft shooter and very accurate.

If you are in BR go to Jims. He has a couple of CZ's. Then go to Kentucky Gun co or Buds and purchase through there. 550 with Night sights.

I've only fired one CZ-75B full size in .40 a long time ago. From what I remember, the ergos are great and the gun was a smooth shooter.

Main things to note about the design:

1. It has a slide-in-frame design so the bore axis is very low and the recoil impulse is very smooth. This is very much different from your average handgun that has a slide-on-frame design.

2. With that design in mind, the slide is much shorter and there is much less to grab onto. You have to be much more precise with your tap-rack-bang drills. But then again, this can be learned with practice.

3. It has a thumb safety similar to a 1911 or Sig. I don't remember if it decocks the hammer or not but I want to say that it does.

I think it's a hell of a bargain though. An all-steel gun with a unique design and a good track record for $500-$600.

(insert Czech flag)

There was some issue with CZ and no patent or some such allowing for clones galore. LOTS of clones from EAA, Desert Eagle, Armalite, Canik and I think maybe 1 S&W? So, the design is out there even if it's not a true CZ. My first will be one of these.

It is one or the other. They have a B model which is for the FPB that has the safety and the BD model with the Decocker. Difference between the old 75's and the B models is the firing pin block IIRC

I have a CZ 40B that I got from my FIL. This is the gun that CZ made in connection with Colt when Colt was trying to get back into the law enforcement market.

This is the closest thing to a 1911 I have in my possession.

I had no idea that existed. Found this:

quote:

You asking the right person as I was right on middle of it, when the Colt Z 40 happened.
Beside myself, another two persons you know very well, were instrumental in Colt Z or CZ .40 B project. It was Ira Kay and Kerby Smith. I will send you a copy of Ira Kay's e-mail from September 18th, 1997 describing chronology of the Colt/CZ relationship involving COLT Z/CZ.40 B projects. This is if I manage to find it.
Just remember, there was just one significant specification put forward by the Colt people - this pistol must bear exterior similarity with the the Colt 1911. It was just a verbal request, nothing was written down or signed on this design matter. We just shook the hands. That was it! All another work was left on the CZ engineers. Shape of the pistol was designed by the Industrial Architect Vojtech Anderle (also author of CZ 100 design), and all interior mechanism works on Colt Z .40 was done by Radek Hauerland, who also worked with me later on CZ 2075 RAMI project. Your statement is absolutely correct, the Colt Z 40/CZ.40B pistol mechanism was fully adopted from CZ 75 line of pistols. After CZ/Colt deal collapse, pistol was made by CZ for an another customers, but in limited numbers. When Radek Hauerland worked on trigger mechanism for COLT Z .40, he at the same time got ready SA/DA and Decocker versions of this pistols. Therefore it was easy to later produce all these trigger mechanism versions, and also the caliber conversion down from .40 to 9x19 was very easy to make. Beside the Colt Z.40 and CZ .40 B pistols, there was an another model based on COLT Z .40 design produced in 9 x 19 cal and called the CZ LE 9.
