More sports are having trouble filling the venues completely for events.

Why are we seeing the actual attendance decline and TV viewing up?

I believe it has a lot to do with the average fan doesn't understand the sport. In football, the TV now shows imposes the down line, first down line, down and distance, and now are showing the field goal range. Do many fans not understand or cant follow games without these features?

I went to the Superdome for Bama games in '08 and '11.

The best view I ever got of a Bama game in that stadium... was this season, from my couch and my 60-inch plasma.

Replays, my drinks are a lot CHEAPER at home, don't have to wait in line for food or to go to the bathroom. Instead of leaving in the 3rd quarter to beat traffic I can just change the channel.

no brainer Fred. Big Screen TVs and EVery single game is on TV now. Cost of tickets (ticket brokers getting all of the tickets first and driving up the cost), non family friendly environments at the game with drunken idiots cursing loudly and starting fights.

Cost of tickets
Cost of travel
Cost of hotels
Cost of food alcohol etc at these places
The increased pleasure of watching these games with better technology and media at home etc.

Do people not enjoy attending an event anymore?

I am not looking at just football. I see it with every sport.

For the record I have the man cave with big TV and can watch it there. I just prefer to be there.

i enjoy watching the pels at the arena more than watching it on tv.

I went to 5 games for $20-30 a ticket in the lower bowls this season with friends and family.

Football: I stay at home because of a 65 inch, surround sound, food on the grill/table, and the hoard of idiots at the house watching it together. if you went and bought 10 tickets it'd cost like 1000 just for 600 sections.

This.

Sad to say, but being a LSU alum and fan, I haven't been to a LSU football game in 4 years and live 50 miles west of Baton Rouge. Its really not worth it anymore. Traffic, cost of alcohol and food. Dealing with dumb asses. I rather have all my friends come over and watch it on the big screen.

It has little to do with "Enjoyment" alone. I think people do "Enjoy" live sporting events, but are less inclined to go because the level of enjoyment doesn't match the level of commitment in terms of money and time.

If you go to a game, that's pretty much an entire day PLUS money spent. Trip to the game, parking, walking, waiting because you have to get there early. Then after the game, it's waiting in traffic, waiting to get home, etc.

If you watch it at home, there's less of a time commitment, and obviously, way less of a financial commitment.
