For some, the shine is off

Like most, I've been disappointed, frustrated & bewildered with recruiting over the last few years, and especially this year, after seeing some of the top flight talent that appears to be leaving the State to play for somebody else. In trying to figure out why, in general, this has been happening, it seems to me that for some of these highly recruited in-state kids, by the time their senior season begins, many of them have been overexposed to LSU. A lot of these guys have been "recruited" for years, not just by LSU representatives, but by middle school and high school coaches, boosters, friends, family and by fans. By the time they are seniors, they've been to countless LSU camps, numerous games in Tiger Stadium, had many tours of our facilities, and have been on campus for years. And while our facilities and what we have to offer rank among the best in the country, for some of these top recruits, by the time they reach their senior seasons, all the "shine" has rubbed off of LSU. Looking for that "shine" they go to see what Brand A has to offer, or Brand F. And what they find is the swag that is no longer as apparent to them at LSU as it once was. Those other brands are more attractive because they're something shiny and new. As the old saying goes, "familiarity breeds contempt." Now I'm not suggesting that this theory applies to all of the recruits that go elsewhere. The fact is that a lot of them just want to get the hell out of Louisiana. But if this theory hold true, even for a small percentage of in-state kids, how do we recruit these in-state kids, yet avoid losing our shine? Or do we leave it alone, and be content to "shine" for kids from out of State?

So don't offer and recruit early because the get sick of LSU.
And at the same token offer and recruit early so they know we care.
Just basically do everything perfect, coaches.

You expect people to read all that shite?

Yes, shine is off for LC, Torshiro, CRob, GWIII, Speedy, TB, and maybe Malachi.

You are going to get flack for not spacing out your paragraphs better, but you make a really good point and one that has not been made that much here.
Good thoughts. Seriously. Familiarity breeds contempt and other programs come in and promise the moon and soon leaving the state becomes a way of being your own man.
Landon Collins
Cam Robinson
Hootie Jones
Speedy Noil
GW III
All guys that we recruited for years who have decided to go make their bones elsewhere on their own - or, dragging their friends along with them. Suddenly, they are "MEN" because they are willing to leave home and strike out on their own.
When Saban was at LSU, he recruited on the basis of staying home and representing family, friends, and your home state. Now, he recruits on the basis of a "business decision." I am sure that breaking away from home is part of the pitch.
Amazing what hypocrites these coaches are. We definintely need to change our approach on the in state kids. I am glad that we are still gaining ground for out of state kids, though.

This isn't panicky enough for me. Surely you can melt down a little harder.
Fact is LSU is in great position. Les Miles has recruited as well as anyone, including this year.
Get your head out of your arse. Or take a vacation or something. You're trying too hard to be miserable.

Simplified: improvements need to be made; we can only do our best to get guys to stay home;
"shine is off" is a self fulfilling prophecy - so the negativity doesn't help

I believe it comes down to resources...How to you grab Juice but don't secure Greg Robinson or Travon Reed...This was during a time when our recruiting momentum should have been at its highest...I am not sure how much young athletes are exposed to LSU...If they don't grow up LSU fans, they learn of LSU overtime, maybe have a bit more knowledge of LSU than other schools, but if we can't match resources, we will lose out from time to time...

LSU can only get 25 at a time
Losing kids here and there has happened...and will happen
We take our fair share from others
The problem is we talk more about what we lose

speak for yourself. recruiting is what it has always been except more competitive than ever.

this is a new theory. many on here seem to think our coaching staff doesn't keep up with these guys enough and needs to show them more love.

my theory is that cooking in louisiana has gone downhill and everyone just eats fast food and at chain restraunts. they have those in other states too. so our recruits these days really don't know what good ole louisiana cooking is so they won't miss it when they leave. maybe the "shine" is off our cooking.
