I knew him in Hattiesburg while he was DC at USM from 92-98. I did not understand why he went to Memphis in 99. He then went to Arkansas for a couple of years and then UF for a year. He was a hot commodity back in the day. Of course he was at Ole Miss in 2007. Do not know what happen with him as USC.
He may not be HC material after ECU but the man is a great DC. Someone should pick this guy up. I cannot help but feel he got a bad deal at Arkansas St. He lead them to two bowl victories and they kick him to the curb. Their fans wish him well but say he will be fine. No regret for him shown by their fans.

Heard a rumor that UAB wants/wanted him for DC. We'll probably end up with Tommy West again.

Before going to Arkansas, he was at LSU for like a week. His father was in very poor health was the reason he gave for stepping down and returning to Arkansas.
He's done well at ASU, filling in for the head coach and winning the two bowl games.

I swear I remember something about Nick Saban leaving him in the middle of nowhere while on a recruiting visit.

Rumor was Thompson after being hired by Saban went out recruiting in New Orleans and couldn't find where they were supposed to be going. Saban did not like that very much. Thompson caught the wrath of Saban early and ended up leaving staff without coaching a game.
