Updated List (1/13/2014)....

Decided to Exit Early to NFL:
WR Jarvis Landry :-( -- Gonna miss this guy. 2nd rounder?
WR Odell Beckham -- late 1st rounder?
DT Anthony Johnson -- an underwhelming last year, but apparently wants to take a chance at getting paid.
DT Ego Ferguson -- ditto. He has reportedly signed with an agent.
RB Jeremy Hill -- confirmed via his twitter (1/13/2014)
OG Trai Turner -- has now formally declared via his agent (1/13/2014)

Decided to Forgo Medical Redshirt option (senior):
RB Alfred Blue

Decided to Stay:
RB Kenny Hilliard - via twitter (1/13/2014) "noceilings27: To close to graduating NFL can wait"
OT La'el Collins

======================

As I've mentioned, LSU needs a better set of talking points on this topic. Several other competitors in our division apparently do a much better job of successfully communicating the pluses of staying. Staying as a top program in the SEC is made harder by these defections.

---UPDATED---

Let's review the LSU Eleven from last year....

Barkevious Mingo - 1st round 6th overall, 4yrs, $4.1M average salary, incl $10M+ (!!) signing bonus
Eric Reid - 1st round 18th overall, 4yrs, $2.1M average salary, incl $4.5M signing bonus
Kevin Minter, linebacker - 2nd round, 4yrs, $1.1M average salary, incl $1.6M signing bonus
Bennie Logan, defensive tackle - 3rd round, 4 yrs, $758K average salary, incl $684K signing bonus
Sam Montgomery, defensive end - 3rd round, 4 yrs, $666K average salary, incl $506K signing bonus -- CUT
Tharold Simon, cornerback - 5th round, 4 yrs, $591K avarage salary, incl $207K signing bonus
Spencer Ware, running back - 6th round, 4 yrs, $564K average salary, incl $97K signing bonus
Chris Faulk, offensive tackle - UNDRAFTED, 3 yrs, $498K average salary, incl $10K signing bonus -- NON-FOOTBALL INJURY, FORFEITS 2013 SALARY
Michael Ford, running back - UNDRAFTED, 3 yrs, $496K average salary, incl $3500 signing bonus
Brad Wing, punter - UNDRAFTED, UNSIGNED

Dismissed from team, may not have had the opportunity to return to LSU in 2013....
Tyrann Mathieu, cornerback - 3rd round, 4 yrs, $763K average salary, incl $265K signing bonus

So, let's compare an undrafted/6th rounder to a 3rd rounder, since many claim there isn't much difference now under the new CBA....

Average salary is about 45-55% higher for the 3rd rounder vs 6th/undrafted guy.

Where it REALLY makes a difference is in signing bonus -- 3rd rounds get $500K-700K, whereas the other get $0-$100K.

Given the short-term nature of an NFL career, and the violence, one could argue you should not consider going pro early unless you have a good chance to go in 3rd round or higher. (see Chris Faulk or Brad Wing as this year's examples)

Also, look at high 2nd rounder (Minter) and lower 1st round (Reid). HUGE differences in signing bonuses, and overall pay. Not to mention, Eric Reid, if he pans out, will be highly desired by San Fran in year 5 and San Fran would have to pay him a 5th year salary that is the average of the third to 25th highest-paid players in the NFL at their respective positions.

Big Sam flamed out. If he would have had a chance to improve his stock just by 1 round, he could have doubled his signing bonus.

Summary:
The numbers indicate significant reward for being a 2nd or 3rd rounder versus 6th/undrafted.
The numbers indicate significant reward for being lower 1st round versus high 2nd round.
The numbers indicate significant reward for being a top 10 overall pick versus lower 1st round pick.

My problem is that LSU seems to not do a very good job of communicating this kind of real data to our players. It is a bigger issue at LSU than anywhere else.

Your other SEC schools arguement is absolute bullshite.......

No reason for 2 1000 yard WRs to stay....

Ego and Johnson have been talked about all year as gone after this season.

There has been no surprises.

OG Trai Turner - shouldn't leave, but you just never know now. This one would hurt the most.

OT La'el Collins - expect him to go

RB Jeremy Hill - he's dumb if he doesn't go

RB Kenny Hilliard - Dumb if he leaves. He needs to come back and try to earn some carries

I have no problem with kids leaving. It sucks for LSU, but it is their career.

And Hilliard probably sees the writing on the wall with LF and Magee. Might as well try to earn a roster spot and a check.

These dudes come on tiger droppings claiming we hAve a problem because we are sending more people to the pros than any school in the country.....

This is not a problem....I'd rather have 11 DBs in the NFL starting than 5.....that's right LSU has 11.

Didn't Kenny Hilliard say he was coming back before the bowl game? Like a few weeks ago?

Is pretty obvious Les has lost control of putting kids into the league.

Meh. They'll always be Tigers, but I really don't care if we have 11 or 0 DBs in the league.

You do realize that by saying this you are saying LSU would have crappy DBs if there were none heading into the NFL.

11 starters in the NFL means we are getting some studs. Studs help you just down offenses. Shutting down offenses helps you win games.

I don't care about the NFL.
I care about LSU.
No other program has this degree of attrition.
If these players were all world in college I get it, most of them past two years weren't.
(Potentially)18-19 juniors in two years leaving is concerning.
No other school even comes close.

You can't help the rantarded, I don't care how many players LSU has in the pros is like saying I don't care how fat my wife gets.

He's smart to leave. Have a good combine and start the NFL clock.

Why come back to get 3-5 carries a game?

wow, two retarded replies right off the bat. The Rant never fails to disappoint.

I'd argue it IS an issue at LSU when you have as many people who left last year at LSU, and this year guys like Trai Turner hop on the train.

Yes, duh, it makes sense for several folks like Beckham. But, if you think it just doesn't matter in the bigger scheme of things to have these marginal guys come back, you are the tarded one. LSU had an offense capable of competing for a BCS title this year, and the defense let us down. Next year, it will probably be the offense if guys like Hilliard and Turner leave. Those are not expected. There is just no way to replace experience and development when the losing of early entrants stays above the norm of our competitors (who also have talented guys, btw).

But, hey, go ahead and keep telling yourself this is not a problem.

Most of them past 2 years have signed million dollar contracts

And your claim is baseless and not factual.

LSU is top 3 in NFL footballers, therefore top 3 in getting players drafted, therefore top 3 in deflections......

With Odell and Jarvis I definitely can't blame them. They are locks as a first round pick. You almost have to leave unless you are dead set on earning a degree which most are not. Anthony and Ego could benefit from another year. It all depends on what they are being told where they are going to go in the draft. Hill could probably do well this year but if he keeps his nose clean and produces like he did this year he could be a first rounder.

Calm your tits. I'm glad we send them to the NFL, and I'll gladly root for them to do well, but I'm not one of those fans who brag to the other schools' fans about how many players we have in the league. Our fans are really bad at this - especially when it comes to trying to talk smack to Alabama fans.

And watch how you throw the word "stupid" around - especially when you go back and edit a post and still leave two blatant grammatical errors.

So basically what you're saying here is we want these guys to do what is in the best interest of LSU and not themselves. Right?

It's obvious clam has no idea what the new cba has done to rookie contracts....

Ego and AJ could stay and likely get drafted in 1st next year or they can leave and get paid between 100-200k a year less than if they stayed another year.

Yes they do.

Has LSU had some of the most attrition? sure. But, you can't really blame the players for wanting to move on.
