I think the general consensus is that someone has him that doesn't plan on returning him.

So someone stole the dog?

You can only do so many things to a man, but you can't mess with a man's dog.

not stole... but the general consensus is that the dog got picked up by someone in the area either hunting the day we lost him or soon after.

that's a dilemma. i'd rather the dog got found by someone, than be dead, but if found they should look for the owner.

The term “stole” is correct – if I “found” a dog w a neoprene vest, collar (w/ a telephone #) that would lead me to believe it has an owner – its not a mangy cur running through the deer woods w/o a collar –(cue the – would you shoot a dog running thru a deer lease crowd) …… A quick trip to the vet would also show the dog is chipped and has an owner – remember here the dog has a collar w/ contact info on it. At worst the “finder” drops the dog off w/ a vet – vet calls owner either by the caller or chip ID and we have a happy ending. We are not splitting hairs here the dog was alive a couple days after being lost – was in all probability picked up by someone other than the owner and has been kept – in my mind that is stealing (or at a minimum being in possession of stolen property if dog was passed along to someone). Grizz’s return is not due to a lack of searching or informing the area by lost dog posters etc. Time to call a spade a spade, IMO Grizz was stolen – hopefully an honest citizen sees Grizz and reports it to police or calls Choupique and we have a happy ending. GSPs are pretty rare so I bet someone is wonder what that funny spotted colored “hound” is behind a trailer, IMO if he was a lab it would be harder to ID. Over my time I have found a couple of dogs, helped recover a stolen dog and had a runaway returned to me – all w/ 100X less effort than I have seen in trying to get Grizz back. Good luck and I hope for a happy ending

Sorry it didn't turn out better... There's something kinda sacred about a man's hunting partner.
