We were staying at a friend's house in Lakeview over the weekend. Mrs. Hat Tricks and I ventured out to find lunch on Saturday and ended up at this place. Loved the atmosphere but oh my god the food was just awful.

I ordered a combination that included a couple of shrimp enchiladas and a half a steak quesadilla. I'm not sure if I can describe what the enchiladas tasted like but it is almost like all I could taste was flour. So strange. The quesadilla was alright but how can that be messed up? The steak was seasoned well enough and the rest is just cheese and tortilla. Tough to screw up.

Wife had a chicken enchilada and taco combination and she said her enchiladas were awful as well. I just took her word for it and didn't try them.

The beans.... Do they stir cream cheese up in them or something? That's what it appeared to be anyway. Just strange and terrible.

The only reason I'd ever return to this place is just to have some drinks on their patio. It was probably the worst Mexican food I've ever had which admittedly would include Ponchos.

Went once for lunch years ago and had a pretty good meal. But I might be the only person who has had that honor.

Yea it is pretty damn terrible. Their "special" beans and cheese grits were total slop the one time I went

I had heard bad things about it so I went with a safe choice in fish tacos. They were good.

Chicks love that place for some reason. I guess the girly drinks are really good.

Maybe we just went on a bad day. The taco that was with my wife's chicken enchiladas was a fish taco and she hated it too.

I went one time for dinner on a friday night, it was completely slammed.

I had a similar food experience, it was forgettable.

Lakeview is a perfect spot for VC, close enough to catch the Metairie, and the New Orleans "Jack and Coke" crowd.

Completely agree. Before we moved, my wife's friends always wanted to go there. Apparently for the atmosphere and margaritas, which I admit is good. But I eventually just refused to go. I couldn't handle spending money on that slop

Food is absolutely awful, most I ever order is chips and dip. But, it is a great place for drinks on the patio with friends, so take it for what it is.

My thoughts exactly. Only ever had chips and dip and drinks on the patio. Great for that, but not much else.

I like it for what it is. Great patio seating, good drinks, attractive waitresses and hostess, fun atmosphere and decor. I never get too jacked up for Mexican food unless I am in Austin, Houston, Dallas...

Me either but I still expect an edible meal when I do eat Mexican.

The drinks are really good, the food is meh and overpriced.

Sorry for the hijack, but there seem to be some Lakeview folks in this thread... How do y'all think a whiskey and wine bar would do somewhere in the Old Metairie/Lakeview area? I've been throwing the idea around and would like some other opinions

I've not been there but my kids, ages 8 and 12 at the time, hated it. My kids have eaten in some fine NOLA restaurants and have high standards for kids, but even so when you can't make a chicken enchilada that a 12 yr old boy will eat, you are failing miserably. They refuse to go back. We generally hit up El Gato Negro instead.

El Gato Negro

3 mins down the street. Better food. Better margaritas. Easy decision for me.
