Some of you may know that I'm a diehard 1911 fanboy, but out of nowhere I've noticed this itch to pick up a 9mm Glock.

I'm going to look at the Gen4 Glock 17 and Glock 34. Any random thoughts or advice? The 17 would be easier for a carry gun since it's a bit smaller, but I've read that people are pretty impressed with the 34 too. Anybody lean one direction or another?

This sort of thing has only happened once before in my life. I don't know if any of you are familiar with Alton Brown and the show Good Eats he used to make. I remember being annoyed as hell by that guy and then one random day came along and I watched another episode and started to like and eventually love the show. I've never been able to stand Blocks, and now I've developed an itch for one.

Glock 23 in .40, you can thank me later.

ETA: If you just wanted something you could hold sideways and "bust" at the other gangstaz then a 9mm Glock would be perfectly suited for your needs.

I want a 9mm just to plink around with; it's cheaper and holds more rounds than the .40. If I want something for more practical/self-defense purposes then I'll stick with my 1911's.

And believe me, I'm the last one on the board you want to direct that "shootin' Glocks sideways" shite at.

ETA: And the difference in ballistics between the 9mm and .40 is nothing to brag about. if I feel the need to "bust a cap" at some gangsta I'll use this:

Says the guy who felt it necessary to mount a flashlight on his handgun- do you have one with the little knife mounted under it too?

You CC with that flashlight?

ETA: I'm just frickin' with you, it's too early for me to be serious.

Should I post pics of my other 1911's without rails and lights? Would that appease you, or should I just let you go on making stupid remarks because you don't know what the frick you're talking about?

The entire "bust a cap" line was a joke. As for home defense it certainly doesn't hurt to have a light. I never said I used that particular pistol for carry, although, the light can come off genius...

fricking moron.

Hell no, I was just making the point that I have large caliber pistols already so there's no big deal in picking up a 9mm Glock rather than the .40.

Get busy- because if you think I'm impressed that you have a Nighthawk, you're mistaken.

A weapon mounted light is probably one of the best things one can have if you the weapon as a defensive pistol, especially considering almost half the day is dark.

Way to change the topic, douchebag. Nothing in my post insinuated that I was bragging about a Nighthawk. I have a Wilson and Springfield Custom TRP as well, but by all means show us your firearms so I can be in awe.

ETA: Get busy sub, I'm still waiting for you to offer something of substance since you've already started out 0-2.

Hey- you're the Ansel Adams who said he was gonna post some more pics.

And quit calling me names. My feelings are getting hurt.

Sarcasm, ever heard of it? I can post pics but I was making the point that most of my 1911's aren't railed and don't have lights attached to them, even though we've already established that you were wrong to knock adding a light to a pistol.

And you're the one talking shite about not being impressed by NHC pistols. If you wanna run your mouth let's see what you've got.

How about an HK? Still plastic, but you get a hammer and a striker (which can be cocked with the trigger) with the fit and finish of a 1911.

I'm considering HK's but if I went that route it would probably be another .45 or a .40. The other option I'm considering is a Sig P226, that way I could also pick up another barrel to run 357SIG out of it.

I'm mainly looking at the Glock because of the price point.

Tell me.... Why do you think .40 is so great?

What are you going to do with it? Will it be a carry gun or just for plinking?

I have never shot a 34 but I have shot many 17s and they performed well. Unless you plan to use the pistol for competition I would just go with a 17. I am not sure of the price diference between the two but if it is marginal I would likely bite the bullet and get the 34, although I don't believe that will be the case. I carry a G21 and love it but I imagine that would be of no interest to you since you already have a few 1911s. How much is the price difference between the 17 and 34?
