Not a slam dunk by any measure. I like strong though.

Agreed, below average hire for above average money. I don't see this upgrading the program from Brown.

What happened is, it was never happening in the first place. Your wishful thinking (used loosely) and jealously of Bama + Saban's success + the decline at LSU clouded rational thinking by many LSU faithful.

they may not have formally offered Saban the job, but I would bet he was their No. 1 target until he declined (informally)...

Chicken, their MO is that, if someone they want says no to them, they "never officially offered". That has always been the case with recruiting.

Mediocre hire.

Bah. With what he's done at Louisville, great hire.

We all knew they weren't going to get a Harbaugh/Saban/Peyton type. I think its an excellent hire for them, though time will tell which of us is right.

Wait, I thought Texas was so good that anyone they offered would immediately accept. They're Texas. Nobody turns them down.

Saban's "process" is to stop the run and call it a day.

Saban's career record against the Big 12 is 3-3, and the few times he's played up-tempo, spread offenses---he didn't fare so well. Briles, Gundy, Stoops, Kingsbury offenses would've made him rip his hair out.

Stoops just put up 350 yards passing on Saban with a freshman QB from Texas starting his 5th game, Manziel personally put up 500 yards on Saban as a Frosh and almost 600 yards on him as Soph.

Strong will recruit better than Mack Brown, and will add Florida and Georgia to Texas' recruiting grounds.

And Strong is far and beyond the X and O coach that Mack Brown was.
