Or more specifically, what is the status quo that must be maintained in order to avoid firings?

Is it a certain win-loss %? Average final BCS rankings? Must division and league titles be won at a certain frequency?

It seems that some of the fan base have very high expectations and some just "remember the 90s" and are happy with whatever.

What are your benchmarks for the status quo?

Mine:
Over a decade:
average 2.5 losses
2 league titles
3 top 5 finishes
3 top 10 finishes

No national title expectations here. Also LSU should always finish the season top 25.

My expectations are slightly higher as follows:

Per decade:
3 SEC titles
4 top five finishes
5 top ten finishes
Play in two championship games; don't have to win them

I would consider this as a successful tenure pace as LSU head coach. Add a national championship win and an additional conference title and that is lagniappe.

Since the BCS era, pretty much.

I think a BCS bowl and win would be nice.

Goal every year from now on will be to make the playoffs.

Good thread. I like to think in 5 year cycles.

1 year with a real shot at NC. Guess that means make the playoffs going forward

2 years (including above) that we are talked about as SEC favorites and make it (top 10 team)

2 years where we are a solid top 15 team where if we get breaks it can be a great or bad season. (think this year)

1 year where the wheels come off. It happens to every team.

id like to know how long we give the next coach. If the next coach doesnt win the sec west in his first season he is already worse than miles.

But i think lsu has proven they can play for a title and win the sec at least every 4 years. So Les should win the sec again by 2015 if we are on par to what this program actually achieved with 2 diff coaches. Those should be the expectations considering thats what we have done.

Compete for the SEC and a bcs bowl every year. Dont lose games like Ole Miss this year, and thats not really expectations that are too high, considering LSU's talent and coaching staff.

Beat Ole Miss and most reasonable people would be completely satisfied this year.

The undisputed best team in the SEC West year in and year out. Everything else will fall into place after that.

I'm a well documented negative poster. I also do not look at success or failure in terms of wins/losses/titles/etc.

I'm more worried about us playing consistently to the level of athlete we get at LSU. Work to treat every week like we're playing Bama.

Do this and I'd be happy. By consistently trying to be the best we could be regardless of opponent, then we start demolishing teams we should beat.

This looks good to me, but add the most important concept, top 10 recruiting every year with 2 years in the top 5 and atleast 1 year per 5 In the 1-3 range or say within a recruit or so from being the #1 class
