What 6 coaches turned down an offer from Texas?

I'm sure Rick Barnes was one of them.

Alot of you posters act like this is USC bringing in Kiffin, at least Strong has something to hang his hat on instead of just being given jobs...

All you stupid arse ags are saying that its too much money for Strong, whos done quite well at louisvile. Then you say its ok for Sumlin whos been average to be paid 5 mil jus because "you have enough money".

The same ones that said Texas would never hire a black coach.

Texas honestly got screwed a little bit because ATM overpayed for Sumlin this year with his extension.

if true, i find it hilarious. however, texas could have paid what they wanted to pay. and as for aggy overpaying sumlin, that's not decided yet. paying for results, yes; paying for potential (as indicated by his stellar recruiting), no. time will tell.

We've got the money to pay a coach as much as we want. Don't worry about it.

Texas does too. So why are you worried about it?

There has been nothing concrete. Lots of speculation but nothing legit. You sound very insecure.

This could've also been a face-saving situation. They contacted pretty much every other good/decent coach with zero interest. Had they failed on Strong as well, it could've been a disaster for them so 5M per really isn't all that much in the grand schemes of things IMO

According to Strong's resume', he has won conference championships and a bcs bowl. I think that trumps Sumlin right there. Strong took a program from the bottom and made them relevant. I haven't seen Sumlin accomplish that. Briles left him talent at UH (by CUSA standards) and Sherman left him talent at A&M. Sumlin looked pretty confused on the sideline in Baton Rouge a month ago.

Charlie Strong was making $3.7 million base salary at UL, not $2.3

Yep, there may be a lot of incentives that we don't know about, but Strong got a 26% raise to come to Texas.

Question is, is that enough to offset putting up with Red

Nah not really. Bob Stoops is shitting himself though and that makes me happy.

I really hope Strong does well. We will be just fine now that we divorced them. I am being serious about McCombs and his meddling. The coach was not the only problem at UTex.

In a backhanded way, he did us a favor. He made the AD look stronger and the result of the garbage he spewed yesterday will be a lessening of influence. Both he & Jamil are both in their 80's now. I think both have gone around the bend.
