It's just remarkable that people think he'd reject all NFL overtures for two years except maybe the Vikings because his wife has family in the area. Lol.

Is there any evidence Sumlin was offered any NFL positions as HC?

It's not like he's tearing it up in the SEC either. You guys took a big step backwards this year and next year he doesn't have Manziel. I'm pretty sure that offense isn't going to be what it was the past 2 years without Manziel. That's a massive loss however you slice it. Evans too. You're getting some good young talent but it takes time for them to develop. OU is already stacked for him with a weak conference.

Agree, offense takes a step back. Defense should be better (still not good but average). But, OU is not stacked and is having a hard time recruiting now that A&M in the SEC takes the Texas kids they used to get. Check the rankings. OU is struggling.

I don't think he's going to leave but I'm just saying it wouldn't shock me if he did. If Sumlin has another season like this year I'm pretty sure TAMU fans are going to want him on the hot seat. With that atrocious defense and an offense that will inevitably take a step backwards, it's realistic. Strike while your stock is hot.

Again you acknowledge our offense will get worse without recognizing our defense will get better. The young talent is there to build upon.

You're also delusional if you think a guy in his position doesn't want to coach in the NFL. All it takes is the right offer and right place for him. It's VERY rare for a college coach to turn down a HC opportunity in the NFL.

He already passed on NFL jobs last year including Philly. It's not his goal at this moment. There's no recruiting in the NFL and that's what Sumlin loves about college.

Well supposedly that was because Chip Kelly was not initially responsive to their interest.

Yes. Offered Chip and he passed. Offered Sumlin and he passed. Offered Chip a lot more money and he accepted.

Not sure why that matters. Point stands he was offered a NFL HC gig. Rarely do teams hire their top choice anyway

What? He was offered the job.

Why he was offered isn't the point. Had he wanted the NFL it was his. Had he regretted passing the opportunity he would have granted interview requests in December.

Of course he'd be crazy to wait. What I'm saying is that Sumlin doesn't want to coach in the NFL right now, regardless of franchise.

Ok. I'm not trying to read tea leaves. Just speaking in hypotheticals. If he isn't interested in the pros, then he should stay put.

Urban Myer left UF when Tebow left. Might be a good time to make a career move.
Family means a lot.

Ample.

There's plenty also proving he denied overtures this December.

I don't know why people resist acknowledging Sumlin's popularity (save 8-4 with JFF: the dude is 20-6 in his first two years at A&M).

Dude won the BCSNCG early in the 2000s, and won several BCS games back then.

He won only 1 other BCS game and Lost 5 others from 2000-2009.
Personally I don't think his stock has changed. He has made 9 BCS games, winning 4. He's a consistent 10 wins coach, with numerous bowl appearances and 3 NC games.
But I mean he just got blown out by aTm in last years cotton bowl.
I would still like to see it all come crashing down for OU and aTm

Remember the guy UM signed to be Tebow's replacement he had to kick off the team. That QB then went to JUCO and wound up at Auburn.

No we wouldn't. 8-4 is exactly where expectations should be next year. Exactly.

2015 is where we should see double digit wins and a chance to play for a SEC title. At that point he'll have all his guys and a lot of the young talent will be fully developed.

It will be different and next year they may step back, but they have recruited some very good talent. They have a stud QB coming in. Lots of high octane offenses have survived the loss of a special QB and still put up #'s. Whether they can get to the next level will be seen but regardless the offense will put up numbers.

The problem for the A&M offense next year isn't that they are replacing a really good QB, like Mett. Those she's are hard enough to fill, but it can be done. You are trying to fill the role of a a top 10 QB in this generation. It is easy to rely on a guy like that to bail you out of tough situations and raise the level of players around him.

I don't think A&M will suck next year. Not saying that. Sumlin is too good of an O mind for that, but so is Malzahn, and his offense was pretty average in 2011. So was UF's in 2010. It's a tough problem to solve in the offseason because it's in-game where the difference of having a Tebow, Newton, or a Manziel really shows up. We'll see next year.

TAMU will be fine. They have a ton of talent on offense. Their QB situation is the same as LSU, Bama, and Fla this year.

The team no one is mentioning is OM. They got almost everyone back on both sides of the ball. If Freeze cant win this year, he cant win.

I think Miss State is going to be a threat next year, as crazy as that sounds.

The SEC West is pretty damn ridiculous right now, and will continue to be for the next several years.

But this year Malzahn is in the BCS CG and his QB is a converted DB. You're right, we'll see. I would expect A&M's O to fall off next year, but beyond that I think they could be good. Baylor didn't fall off after RGIII so it can go both ways.

They certainly have more experienced players returning on offense than most in the SEC.

People are jumping the gun with this Sumlin guy. Man I would want to see him post JFF before I made a decision on him. He does seem like a solid guy though so maybe he has the traits for a great coach but just not the track record yet.

He'll get there. GMs/Admins are seeing the potential and it is huge and huge for recruiting. Go and look at his haul this year just two years into the SEC. Packed with talent everywhere and he is going after defensive recruits to get that side up.

Kyle Allen is a beast and the guy he's going to get in the class the next year is just as ridiculous as Manziel. Myles Garrett will be a force for him also.

If they had a defense that was at least as good as terrible Auburn's, they would have beaten Bama, Auburn, and Mizzu. He is the next great coach, I'm telling you guys.
