Contributions drop almost to almost 3/4 of previous contributions after Komen decided not to fund Planned Parenthood, then reversing itself.

The question is, who stopped giving? Pro-Life advocates who don't want funding to go to a pro-choice organization, or liberal pro-choice advocates pissed at the organization?

Or both?

Good. Komen is a fraud. They spend hardly any of the donations on actual cancer research.

This is why I stopped donating to them

In 2010, they spent more than $1 million suing smaller charities that used the phrase "for the Cure" in their names or in their events.

I try not to buy anything that has their logo on it.

You're full of shite. They spend over 80% of what they pull in on the programs they claim to support.

They screwed themselves by having it known that they had taken a side in this wedge issue. They were going to lose funding either way. It will pick back up again, though, after a few more nfl pink seasons.

The usage of the color or word pink by any other organization other than Komen will be verboten in a few years, even Pink the singer will have to find a new color to perform her shows.

Probably both. During the controversy, whichever side was ticked off at them publicized their unsavory practices.

It would be incredibly stupid to cut them off if they don't fund PP. By that logic, no pro-choice person should ever give money to St. Judes or a disaster relief organization or a soup kitchen. If you want your money to go to PP, you can cut out the middleman and give directly to PP.

Charities are not the most efficient way to make medical breakthroughs.

We need more federal funding and have grant programs to researchers who can are making progress. We would have more money if we all spent a little bit more via taxes to fund cancer research.

Cancer breakthroughs are made at cancer centers like MD Anderson and universities with research hospitals like University of Michigan for example.

Everyone has someone who has been killed by cancer I know you all would gladly spend an extra 50.00 a year in federal taxes for federally fund cancer research.

So in your infinite wisdom MD Anderson or any other organization doesn't get funding from any charities at all. Are you even remotely aware of the act that federal funding is generally the most wasteful means of distributing money as a very large shitload goes to people just sitting at a desk and moving paper work around each day?

My family's business made a substantial contribution to Susan G. Komen every year but we cut off all ties. Their association with Planned Parenthood, previously unknown to us, was the primary reason we looked into the group further and didn't like what we discovered.

Somewhat misleading when it comes to Komen. What they call program expenses is nothing more than continued and ongoing fundraising under the guise of education. They call it a service but its just more fundraising.

I was kind of impressed by his changing of his avatar to the chick when Lenin is his man. He is going for the honey attracting more flies than vinegar approach. Fortunately for me I was taught a long time ago to beware of wolves in sheeps clothing.

ETA the funny thing that I have failed to point out is that my brother is a doctor that works with patients daily at a hospital that is a part of the School of Medicine in Springfield. He is a professor, doctor, and RESEARCHER during his day of work. I have a much better understanding of medicine in America today than Ralphie ever will.
