So I've been looking for a scope for my 300BLKout and initially I was looking at an ACOG, thinking it would fulfill hunting purposes as well as just a general optic for it, but with me building a couple 223/5.56 rifles I've decided to just put a regular scope on it. Plus for the money of an ACOG, I figure I could find a pretty good scope to fulfill my hunting needs and not roll with an $1100-1400 price tag.

Anyway have it narrowed a couple, but am open for suggestions from you guys as well.

Aimpoint 9000L LINK

Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24 LINK

or for $100 more

Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10X44 LINK

I'll admit I know jack about scopes, as the only optics I've ever dealt with were in the military and I wasn't a sniper so it was an Aimpoint/EOtech or ACOG for me.

Same situation,

I'm looking at:
SWFA 1X4 OR 1X6
LEUPOLD MARK 6OR8 1X4/5
ACOG

No need for anything with more magnification.

What type of hunting will it be used for?

Can't say much about those models but my 300 BO optic will be a 1-4x for sure.

Keeps a quick target acquisition but lets you reach out past 100 yds fairly easily.

Isn't that like a $2k scope?

Leupold has an AR model 1-4x for around $500 I believe. For $150 more you can get an illuminated reticle as well

Edit - It's a 1.5-4x for $379 or $499

They vary in range from 600 to 2000. Depends on reticle and features. I'm waiting for my can to arrive before dropping the money on a scope though. My AimPoint does just fine.

I just went with a nikon prostaff 3-9x50 on mine with the tallest mounts I could find so I could grab the charging handle easy.

Burris MTac 30

Nikon

I don't know what you're hunting, but these two aren't' bad options. Good luck.

About 200-250yds maximum. Everything I've read says that round pretty much tops out at 250-300yds which is well within where I hunt.

I would not be shooting deer at 250-300 yards with a 300 black

At 200 yards a 110 gr 300 blackout bullet drops 7 inches. 14" at 250 and 25" at 300. I don't shoot mine over 175 yards at deer. It drops 4.5" at 175.

Yeah 200-250 would be the absolute furthest and I don't think it even goes to 250. Most of the lanes are about 120 but there's one about 200 or so.

I'm building a 6.8 spc may be an good option for you. The ballistics are better at longer ranges.

For the ranges he's talking about shooting the 300 blackout is a good round. Any further and the 6.8 or 6.5 creedmoor would be ideal.

He said max of 200-250. That range is not good for a 300 black out at all.
