Article from the Monroe paper today makes it pretty clear. From Hootie's mouth:

quote:

The four-star safety said on Friday he wanted to give LSU another look, but he never heard back from the Tigers following his decommitment. “I took that as a sign that Alabama was where I was supposed to be, and at the same time, Tuscaloosa already felt like home,” Jones said.

Well, he isn't the prodigal son. Did he think he was that special that once he turned his back on us we'd jump all over him for a second chance?

Of course. Its recruiting, this kind of thing happens. However, I don't think he relized how far along we were with Adams.

I think playing on the same team with Adams made him realize why we stopped recruiting him

Wasn't it already the "dead period" and LSU could not contact him. He would have to initiate contact with the coaches. Now if he couldn't reach any of them, he would just have to wait. It appears, he didn't want to wait anymore after Adams' commitment. But, to be fair, Hootie did have first dibs, he passed.

I was not familiar with this rule until today.......

quote:

Per new NCAA legislation, coaches are no longer restricted from contacting recruits during assigned dead periods if the recruit signs a non-binding financial aid agreement with the school. Jones signed two such agreements with Alabama and LSU.

From a politics standpoint, I think the wrong decision.

Nah

Hootie Jones was never even committed to LSU.

And don't put this on McCarty

I would like to personally thank the coaches for their stance...it is what we all feel as fans when an in-state kid goes out of his way to put down his state school.
Would we like his talent, yes...Is it worth letting a 18 yr old CHILD make a mockery of the system, and be an attention seeking child.

He could have easily waited another month to declare and do all of his searching. LSU spent a ton of time and money in its efforts to land him...

Thank God he is gone play LB'er at Bama.

He had a chance to be at LSU, committed to Alabama and LSU needed a safety so they went elsewhere. Pretty sad that a kid in Dallas wanted to rep the boot more than a kid from Monroe or even New Orleans but that's how it is.
