Brothers my local hunting club buddy and caretaker of our club was telling me today that he prefers to hunt from stands in the am and from the ground at night because the heat etc is typically coming off the ground and rising in the am so the deer can smell you better if u or on the ground whereas he hunts from the ground typically in the afternoon as the cooler air is coming in and typically displacing warmer air near the ground causing the scents etc to typically fall toward the ground so u r worst off in an elevated stand. I know bow hunters have warned me about scent traveling down from elevated stands before as well. What say ye ole timers and experts on here ?

I think your buddy is overthinking it.

I hunt where I'm seeing deer. Don't matter if its a ground blind or tree stand

It doesn't matter that much. I've killed deer from the ground in the morning and from the stand in the evening. It's been said about 20 times in the past week but I'll say it again, hunt the wind. Have multiple stands to be able to hunt where the deer will be up wind in any wind direction. If the deer are up wind and you're on the ground in the morning they won't smell you. I'm not a big fan of the ground blinds the sell in stores. I'd rather make a brush pile blind, you just have to be more still on the ground and be camouflaged.

burned today on the ground, was the hunting East wind but they forgot to tell me the deer don't come in from the damn swamp but from the West. He got 15 feet behind me and either saw me or smelled me stomped and was gone. Another lesson learned at the new club. Was a beautiful day in the woods with my son anyway

My daughter was hunting the ground and missed a deer at 10' this morning.

Yesterday, I was hunting the ground and killed a very nice 8 pointer. I hunted the ground this morning and had a shite load of deer all around me within 50 yards.

Hunting the ground, you have to hunt the wind.
