OFFENSE

Notes:
-Brees is amazing again. His passing is top 3 among QB's according to PFF this season.
-Strief has had a strong season. RT seems to be fine.
-Despite some criticism, Sproles' receiving ratings are very, very high. Still a productive player.
-Ingram has the highest pure rushing ratings despite way fewer snaps than Thomas or Sproles.
-Collins doesn't blow me away. Wish he could block better.
-Nick Toon did very little with his limited snaps.
-Colston really lit it up towards the second half of the season. I choose to believe he was nursing an injury.
-BDLP didn't have a terrible season, but he's clearly the weak link in terms of the interior protection.
-No one misses Charles Brown.

DEFENSE

Notes:
-Hicks is truly turning a corner. If J. Jenkins continues to improve, this line will be nasty.
-Galette is perfectly average in run defense, but not bad as some have alleged.
-Walker is great when not injured.
-Bush and White have done good things when given the chance, particularly Bush.
-Greer's coverage was not very impressive this season before the injury.
-Vaccaro's score is hurt by rookie mistakes in the first half of the season. Dude will be a beast.
-Biggest disappointments are our ILB's, particularly Hawthorne. If you look, Humber actually did much better in coverage than the other two in limited snaps. I'd like to see more of him.

Lofton has been disappointing, but I thought Hawthorne made quite a few good plays. Weird seeing him way at the bottom of the list. Definitely should target some ILBs in the draft.

He's in the red, but I think Quddus could be an acceptable stopgap at S if we let Jenkins/Harper go and don't draft a safety.

What sucks is that we restructured Hawthorne/Lofton's contracts this offseason, making them more difficult to cut.

I've always liked IAQ, but he didn't perform as well as I'd hoped this season.
He may need more snaps.

But there's really no reason why Jenkins should still be starting over Bush once Vaccaro returns.

pretty much this. neither guy graded that well in pass coverage but it seems like Hawthorne has played better to me. I don't know how they go about determining their grades and what all has to be accounted for but I liked what I saw form Hawthorne this year.

there for awhile in the Seattle game, he was one of the few bright spots on defense. I thought he played hard in the loss to the Rams too.

Lofton and Hawthorne both draw tough assignments this week with the speed of LeSean McCoy. Hope they are up to the job in taking good angles.

well really Vaccaro is the FS and Bush should be the SS. So Malcom would either move to nickel back or go look at some other teams photographs.

Lofton and Hawthorne have played solid but they aren't difference makers. They accumulate stats but they aren't winning games on the D for us. Hawhtorne will prolly be on the team 1 more year, it'd be nice if we get some stud ILB that can come in here and wreak havoc on the D for us.

I really think Mosely would make us complete.

Dude is all over the place.

It's probably not their fault.

Ryan's defense seems to put a lot of pressure on ILB's.

yeah, I agree.

to me we could use more speed at that position but I think most would say the Saints have more pressing needs.

say CJ Moseley was there when we picked in the draft... take him?

I think he could be there because LB's aren't taken as high anymore but I guess he could always knock it out of the park in his workouts and be a top pick.

I think we really need some help along the OL and WR, but centers can be found in the middle rounds and if we don't like any WRs/OTs (or Armstead puts together two solid games in the playoffs) available in the first, then a stud ILB really could help us make the leap from a great bend/don't break defense that gets sacks to a legit elite defense that teams hate to play.

This dude would make a nice combo with kenny especially when we play falcons and panthers.

Use him like a hockey enforcer. Just send him out to get ejected.

I really want Armstead to perform well so we aren't forced into drafting an LT first round, whom at the end of the 1st round might not even be all that much of a difference maker anyway.

I would love to beef up our ILB's to fix our porous run defense, but at the same time I want our defense to create turnovers. How would we go about doing this? Getting ball hawk Safeties/Cornerbacks, or is it just coaching?

People bitching about Strief was the stupidest thing throughout the season. And I said that throughout the season but it bears repeating here. Just my first thought when opening this thread.

We should definitely try to resign him on the cheap next year, but we do have guys I think could be decent and are cheaper already on the roster if we can't afford it/he asks for too much.

I think a center in the 2nd/3rd is a real possibility and if Armstead shows up and we go deep in the playoffs to bear that out I think the Oline won't be in bad shape for next year.

I think Brown sucking and Evans being injured most of the year really hurt Grubbs' and DLP's play because they definitely seemed to start coming along once Evans got healthy and then really during the 2nd half of the panthers game and all of the bucs game with Armstead.

Probably will post more thoughts after looking at the rest and reading some posts.

I also want Armstead to do well for similar reasoning. Only I want us to draft a stud WR instead. And if not the WR then an upgrade to CB with ball hawking skills.

Vacarro was a greater impact than the stats say he was and will be missed in the playoffs

Surprised DLP's stats weren't worse. He is serviceable but the position can surely be upgraded.

I'd love for Armstead to continually improve so we can get Bradley Roby or CJ

Some other notes looking at the numbers.

Offense
Sproles was huge in the first half in the passing game but seemed to tail off toward the end because of seemingly less snaps(but still did well with the snaps given). I think that was due to needing to keep PT in to block because teams more and more started to take advantage of our Oline. Now with PT out we may have to run more of a spread offense along with more of a heavy offense(more HB/FB/TE sets and 2 TE sets) with very few 1 back 1 TE sets.

Colston definitely came alive more in the second half but I think that was due to two reasons. I think he was still nursing an injury early and I think Brees was locking in WAY too much on Graham early(which helped cost us the Pats game and seemed to change after that).

Grubbs definitely seemed to turn a corner with a healthy Evans. He still seems to be lacking in run blocking strength and gets pushed back by power rushers still, but with Evans able to take guys one on one again DLP has been able to help Grubbs a lot more.

I don't think the numbers bear out how well PT did in pass blocking because he picked up a shite ton on blitzes throwing his body into harms way. Once again a great all around year for PT and his absence at Philly will likely be felt but hopefully be compensated for.

I noticed Stills is missing but I know from watching him that he is becoming a more reliable deep threat along with being able to run under routes and he is a great run blocking WR. Him and Meach are excellent run blockers. Meach also did very well in his limited role.

Moore seems to be getting phased out by Stills(which is good for the cap) but he is still a very reliable zone buster and stealthily gets behind defenders despite not having blazing speed.

Collins and DLP both seem to have taken big steps backwards this year. Collins has shown out more in the pass game but his run blocking regressed dramatically. DLP is a huge reason for our early run game woes(along with Evans being hurt and Grubbs and Brown getting bullied).

Toon hasn't shown enough to be considered a future starter but you can see flashes of talent every now and then. I think Meach getting way more snaps than him says a lot about how far he still has to go. By the time he is ready we may have already moved on.

Harris sucks in the eligible role. I think he is a better blocker than that when actually lined up at RT but he is still very unproven.
