Scoring on Bama's defense!!! Take note Coach Miles & Cameron

The Alabama defense gave up 181 points this season. 121 of them to 3 teams: Texas A&M, AU, & OU. In their other 10 games they gave up only 60 points. That's an average of 6 pts/game vs. a 40 pt./game average against the 3 teams mentioned above.
After watching OU's win over Bama last night in the Sugar Bowl, right after Auburn torched Bama's vaunted defense, and seeing what Texas A&M did to them earlier this year it's obvious to me.
The way to beat Bama is with tempo, speed, misdirection, counters, and anything but running right at them which we seem to keep thinking works.
I hope the coaches on offense look at the game tape and realize that those large, big, LB's and Defensive players for Bama do not like to run around all day chasing small fast guys like Jalen Saunders and Tre Mason!

Jefferson wasn't that fast and was not a threat to pass deep to anything but wide open receivers. OP is correct in their observations.

To beat Bama you must make them big boys run, you must make them linebackers guess. Les Miles plays right into the strengths of Bama defense, frustrating as hell.

And yes, I know that Jefferson sucked. I just don't like it when people get mad at the coaches for doing something one year, and the next whine about the coaches not doing the thing that they didn't want them to do the year before.

Oh you mean when Jefferson kept running that short side of the field option that Bama had been waiting for since 2 days before the game started?
I'm never mad when coaches try something new like play Jefferson when Lee is having a bad day, but running the same offense against a D that is clearly ready for it is mindless and dumb. Did we even throw the ball to Rueben Randle that game?

No, essentially we run right at those big boys every year, till they wear us out, then they run away with the game.

I have been waiting for a gameplan like this for years....... I've given up!!! Idk why we don't try to confuse anyone?? It would work sooooooo well because we have never done it.

OU beat Bama because their QB was ON FIRE.
The kid literally looked like Brees in the Dome...
They got up on Bama, made Bama play catch up and had the speed off the edge to make AJ make mistakes.
It's that simple.
Now, back to LSU - JC just powers into the end zone and doesn't fumble and we have Bama in the same spot... playing catchup. Food for thought.

Great revisionist history. If you consider that offense to have been "zipping along" then this year's offense was the greatest in college football history.

Bama has a Nose, DT sized guys at their end spots, and end sized guys at OLB. While they are athletes, you can only move a big body around so much. Make em run around.
OU also hit them with the Deep ball, which is key. HAVE to watch their safeties, bc besides the inside backers their safeties are usually their biggest strength IMO and will make plays on the ball.
Run sweeps, counters, read and triple option plays, SCREENS which we couldn't do well this year, and the deep ball to keep their safeties honest. Even AU got a deep pass or two on em.

FTR, what A&M (Manziel) do on O is pretty different than what Auburn/OU did.
Nonetheless, your point is well-taken. Bama's D is built to defend more conventional O's, not the HUNH, etc so prevalent today.
As for last night, OU's QB made some incredible throws and their play-calling was nothing less than spectacular.

While this is true, there's no denying the impact the hurry-up offense had: Smart couldnt substitute his players in and make the calls they normally do based on down and distance.
If im LSU next year, i get in a formation thats multiple on early downs (multiple plays/formations can be run from it), and once Bama gets a D on the field that we like, go no huddle and roll down the field.....
...until they start faking injuries.

This is why you need players like Speedy..multiple game breakers on the field at the same time...
Wouda Coulda Shouda...Fournette, Quinn, Dupre and Noils on the field at the same time...Gumpville whould have no answer for that..

Great point Meauxjeaux, but we needed to be up by 2 TD's for it to be similar to what OU did last night. I loved how pressure on McCarron made him look very ordinary. Same thing happens to Brees unfortunately. That OU QB could elude the pressure and their screen passes over the middle were executed to perfection. Made even CJ Moseley look ordinary. Scheme and preparation beat Bama last night along with great QB play. Maybe Brandon Harris can do that for us next year? Whatayasay?
