ESPN St. Louis' Tony Softli reports Oklahoma's Bob Stoops may have the "inside track" on the Browns' head-coaching vacancy.

It's unclear if Softli is passing along a sourced report or pure speculation. His Twitter account can be hard to decipher. Softli dropped the nugget as Stoops' Sooners turned in a surprisingly strong Sugar Bowl performance against Alabama. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported earlier in the week that Stoops was "open" to making the leap to the NFL after 15 years at Oklahoma.

The job has been open for 4 days and 6 people have had the inside track so far.

I would think they would be going with an offensive head coach since they already hired a DC

Stoops

Speculation, but a link nonetheless. Article also references Malzahn and Franklin. Browns all over the road.

This would be awesome if true. OU will have a much harder time replacing Stoops than they realize.

I wonder how Heupel is as a recruiter and w/big money types?

Or would he be too green as a coach for them to elevate to HC?

their fanbase fricking hates Heupel. It would be catastrophic to elevate him

What? Why?

B/c he got saddled with Blake Bell as his QB for most of the year?

IMO the offense hasn't really been OU's biggest issue the last few years. (aside from when they were stuck using Bell this year due to RS freshman Trevor Knight getting hurt early)

They have gone 31-8 since he has been full time OC and in those 8 losses they've given up just under 38 ppg.

Only once did they lose and the opponent scored under 30 (a 24-19 loss to eventual Big12 champ KSU last year).

In the losses they have averaged under just over 20 ppg. Twice they scored 38 and the rest were under 20. In games OU scored 20 or under they are 2-6.

Meanwhile, in games they have given up 30+ they are 6-7.

Seems to me they should be more pissed about their defense in the last 3 years than the offense.

hey don't look at me. I'm just the messenger here. There's a 36-page thread with 1,762 replies on landthieves titled "Josh Heupel should be fired."

It's fallen to the 2nd page today though
