Recording TV/Movies on laptop

Wife and I have had enough with Directv and instead of a switch we've thought about going a month or two without any satellite (no cable in my area).
Another thing is we have to pay for a hotspot for internet at home so the streaming of movies is out.
Is there a way to record/download shows from Amazon Prime or Netflix to a laptop/Ipad (at work) and then playback on the TV at home? We're not big TV users outside of sports and the kids with an occasional show but would like the option if there is one available.

PlayLater will allow you to "record" shows in realtime from Netflix, Hulu, HBOGO, etc., and watch them on a device later.

so if you cant stream with your hotspot, where are you going to download all of this stuff from?
eta: sounds like you need a dvd player and the traditional netflix subscription

whats your issue with directv?
did they wrong you?
i've had it for a year and have nothing but good to say
i called last week to cancel some premium channels to save me 20 bucks a month, and instead they offered me a 27 dollar discount for the next 6 months

Have thought of the traditional subscription.
Was hoping to use Amazon Prime but would pay a little more for something extra if need be.

We've been billed for hardware we don't have and that took multiple calls to clear up. Have done all they can to help correct service going out when there's more than a mist outside and they admit its not good.

Does your dish not have a clear view of the sky? Are you in a holler or something with a landmass or trees you can't cut back in the way?
There isn't a reason that being in the middle of nowhere should at all affect your DirecTV reception. The satellite is in orbit and doesn't care if you are in BFE or BTR.
If quality of signal is your biggest complaint. I would check your signal strength, dish alignment and mount before anything else.

Okay...this actually might work for you if you can connect your laptop to work and download.
PlayLater
I purchased the PlayON and PlayLater lifetime sub when I first got my Roku device and found out about this. I've used the PlayLater function a few times and it's really easy to do and will work with things such as netflix etc. It basically downloads things to the laptop so that you can take it with you later and watch it.
Work may get pissed at you for using up their bandwidth, but if you're okay with taking that chance than I'd check it out.

How far from your area do they have cable, and could you possibly get line of sight to a home with cable?
I'd be more concerned with the lack of internet options in your area than I would be about ripping streams at work.

Appreciate it, will look into this.
Don't think work will mind much since I own the business.
