NOPD Arresting People for Prostitution, Citing Carrying Condoms as Evidence

Who are these idiots that keep coming up with these ridiculous policies?

Last week, Mother Jones' Molly Redden wrote about a recent Human Rights Watch report, "In Harm’s Way," which argues that aggressive policing in New Orleans is contributing to the city’s soaring HIV/AIDS rates. One tactic that Human Rights Watch found to be particularly problematic: the police harassment of suspected sex workers for possessing condoms.
quote:
According to the report, police in New Orleans use the possession of condoms as evidence of prostitution, even if they don't witness the crime underway. The result? Of the report’s 169 interviewees, all of whom had exchanged sex for money, drugs, or life necessities, more than a third said that they had carried fewer condoms out of fear of police harassment. More than a quarter had had unprotected sex due to the fear of carrying condoms.

Prostitution being outlawed is the most ridiculous policy of them all.
Who cares if a guy wants to get a rub and on his lunch?
If they are all adults it shouldn't matter and is none of the Governments business.

Former New Orleans mayor Martin Behrman on the closing of Storyville by the feds:

I agree that prostitution should not be illegal but, you have to admit, that source appears to be weak. I also find it hard to believe there is any crackdown on prostitution in New Orleans because I see them everywhere each time I visit the city.

Human Rights Watch is a weak source?
quote:
Human Rights Watch (HRW) is an international non-governmental organization that conducts research and advocacy on human rights. HRW headquarters are in New York City with offices in Amsterdam, Beirut, Berlin, Brussels, Chicago, Geneva, Johannesburg, London, Los Angeles, Moscow, Paris, San Francisco, Tokyo, Toronto, and Washington D.C.
As of June 2011, the organization’s annual expenses totaled $50.6 million
quote:
Human Rights Watch has reported extensively on subjects such as the Rwandan Genocide of 1994 and the conflicts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
quote:
This 57-page report documents government violations of the right to health and other abuses of at-risk populations in New Orleans. It calls for changes in state and local laws and policies that stigmatize, discriminate against, and facilitate police abuse of sex workers and drug users, and interfere with health services for people at high risk for HIV. The report was released in advance of the third annual Southern Harm Reduction and Drug Policy Conference, which opens in New Orleans on December 12, 2013.

if it weren't for us "tightwads" then society would have burned to the ground in a storm of bodily fluids and pot smoke years ago. Conservative Christian values and policies are the only thing keeping the rest of you knucklehaeds from doping and fricking your way into early graves. It's for your own good, you're welcome.

? The source interviewed only prostitutes and provided no statistics or evidence that this is going on. I know there are many shady things that go on in New Orleans and I would not be surprised if this was something the NOPD do on a regular basis but that story did not convince me of anything. It was, simply, poor reporting.

Who are the real idiots in this story...

Providing a link to another article in the story is weak. You should have linked that story if you wanted to post something with any credibility. I am not trying to be a dick I just believe the article listed in the OP is garbage.

MUST.NOT.BITE.
Ok damnit, I'll bite.
You are fricking dumb and have no proof of anything you say.
Look at all the red/orange areas that are FULL of religion. Compare those to the green areas. Africa, the Middle East, and Central and South America are the most religious. Really working out for those places.
Meanwhile Sweden, Denmark, and Norway are 3 of the most agnostic/atheists countries and are considered some of the safest, cleanest places to live in the entire world.

I agree with most of this but I don't know a great deal about religion in Sub-Saharan Africa and I would tend to believe it does not play a major role there.

Yeah I just mentioned it. It isn't fricked up due to religion, but it sure hasn't helped. Lots of crazy sects of Islam and Christianity down there from centuries of imperialism.

Check your facts bro, there's nothing safe or clean about eternal damnation.

That post to which you responded was an obvious joke and not a troll at all. You just wanted an excuse to rail against religion.
