Used to go see Tabby regularly when I was at LSU. Loved his music. RIP Tabby.

His place was a haven for young people in BR and lsu, where good times and cheap booze was paired with soulful music.
His place served as an introduction to blues for many.
Thanks for everything Tabby

Thx for posting this. I cut my teeth and lips on the harp in that jernt for many years playing with all kinds of cats. I've missed the Blues Box all this time and now I have to see goodbye to Tabby. RIP, my old friend. Grab yo hat and catch the bus!

Was really sad to hear about this last night. I spent a lot of time at the original blues box on North blvd with Tabby. He was always great to me and loved just haning out and talking about the blues. He helped me a lot when I was doing the blues show for KLSU back in early 90's. I'm sure the fat women with shiney dresses met him at the pearly gates and Heaven was jammin last night.

I love the fact that he operated illegally on Sundays, but nobody every messed with him. TBB was one of my hang-outs back in the day.

Lots of good cheap draft beer was thrown back by me in that place. RIP Tabby.

Man, Tabby's brings back memories. Great place to watch the blues and drink beer from a cooler.
RIP.

loved the nights Tabby would cook a jambalaya or red beans and would serve you a plate before he went on and played

Watched a very elderly man (80-90yrs old) walk on stage and pick up an acoustic guitar and start finger picking. After about 3 songs he's helped off stage, I walk up to him and said, " you really play well, how long have you been playing." He turned and said " about 20 minutes...."
RIP Tabby

I remember the Old Blues Box well. One crazy memory I have of that place is when the wife and I were watching a band on stage and she felt something in her hair. It was a piece of the old ceiling plaster that had fallen. I laughed. She didn't.
On another note... I wonder how many people who don't know that Tabbys son (Chris Thomas King) is still getting royalties from his role in the film OH BROTHER WHERE ART THOU? He is the dude who sold his soul to the devil. RIP Tabby and thanks for helping local artists hone their craft and educating people on what the blues really sounded like.
