Friends of the family just had chocolate lab/ Weimaraner mixed pups. They're one week old now. Strongly considering, seems like it would be a good duck fetcher for me.

Problem is that we've already got a dachshund who is super territorial. I don't want to create a miserable situation for either one.

Also, there's the time and responsibility aspect. I have plenty of time to take it for walks and what not and could definitely take the time to train it if I committed to it.

Give me you thoughts please.

Thanks.

I had a lab and dachshund growing up and it was the funniest shite ever. Little bastard would bite the labs tail and hlold on while the lab dragged him around.

You've got to take control. If your Dachshund will have aggression issues, it's because you're the Beta Male/Member of the pack.

When she was a puppy she first lived with a golden/lab mix but that dog was already in the house. Now that we have moved she's the only one.

Give the dachshund some company and get the pup.

Will be a beautiful dog. Get it if you got the space and tolerance. The weiner will learn or they will just learn to respect each other's space.

How many of the pups look like a lab? like a Weimaraner? like a mix?

Just curious how they came out.

I think I might want one of those. The weimaraner doesn't have the hip issues the labs do I don't think. I bet they are less ap to get fat like labs sometimes to too. Just guessing.

I had a border collie/black lab mix one time. You would be amazed at what that dogs energy level was like.

If I were to get something that was going to be a "duck fetcher" as it's main purpose in life, would get something with a proven track record. While it may be more than a "free" dog, the purchase price of any dog is your cheapest investment in owning a dog for a lifetime.

Not to say the mix breed can't retrieve ducks, I just like to tip my odds in my favor as once I commit to a dog it's mine even if it doesn't pan out as a duck dog.

Yeah good thought there. The pups are only one week so you really can't see much yet
