Have yet to see it, but want to check it out.

Popular opinion seems to be extremely polarizing on the film; some love it, others absolutely hate it.

Is it worth checking out just to see Day Lewis' performance? Is this Paul Thomas Anderson's best film?

How does the board feel about this one?

Saw it, enjoyed it, Daniel Day Lewis was great, but I feel no urge to watch it again.

One of the better movies I've ever seen.

It's not a conventional enjoyment though. To me, it was like enjoying classic literature. As pretentious as that sounds, that's really how I would describe it.

Even if you aren't into slow moving movies like TWBB, you should watch it to appreciate Daniel Day Lewis's performance.

Where does Plainview stack up against his other charecters?

One of his best performances?

This is pretty much the only Day Lewis movie I have yet to see.

You're going to get some strong opinions on both sides on this one.

Me personally, I didn't care for it much at all. DDL was great and I recognize the performance he put on, but I just didn't really like the movie overall that much and have no desire at all to see it again.

My third favorite movie of all time, after The Godfathers 1 and 2.

He is great as usual, as are his interactions with Paul Dano (who I think did a phenomenal job).

Love the movie, hated the ending.

Just seemed like a non-ending.

Of the people I know who have seen it, some felt the payoff at the end was lacking.

There was a ton of build up and then nothing really happens.

DDL's Acting cannot overcome a Film that moves at a Dull, Uninteresting Pace.

Oh I get it.

It was just poorly executed.

I think it is the single worst performance of his career, as it is the only time he has really repeated himself. It's just Bill the Butcher in the West. Not only did he copy himself, he did the films consecutively... and Bill is a far more interesting character.

My favorite DDL roles:

The Boxer
In the Name of Father
My Left Foot
Gangs of NY
Lincoln

A fair amount of people on this board think that it is "boring" or "pointless." Pretty much people who can't stand slowly moving films didn't like it.

I think it's a great movie with a several great performances. It's one of the best movies of that last 5 years imo. Definitely worth at least checking out.

I love slow moving films. The Assassination of Jesse James is a slow moving film that is a must see. I don't like There Will Be Blood because there is no character development, no dramatic tension, and the themes are hackneyed and obvious.

Pretty pictures of Marfa only go so far.
