Does anyone know when Paul Johnson's contract is up?

Regardless of who ends up winning the Music City Bowl, I'm ready for a new coach. I'd pull for Ole Miss if it meant getting a new coach. The triple option is usually ineffective after the initial drive unless we are playing East Chattanooga Technical Seminary. Paul Johnson is the perfect coach if you want to consistently win 7 games. If Stanford can be a top 10 team, why can't Georgia Tech consistently compete for the ACC?

People forget that O'Leary and Ross didn't always control the ACC.
Iirc only Ross and Johnson have won the ACC since 89 at Tech.

True, but at least with O'Leary and Ross there was at least a chance of some big wins. I guess there are plenty of teams that would trade places, but I get tired of watching them be so ineffective.

If the administration really wanted Georgia Tech to be a force, it could happen. It would take some major changes, though.

No offense, but the fact that Tech fans are asking about their coach's contract on a predominantly SEC board is indicative of some of the issues.
I'm sure if enough of you guys get serious about football the AD will respond. But as long as there are billboards advertising season tickets starting at 150 bucks, I don't think we're there. I'd like for Tech to be formidable again, but I'm not sure how that'll happen.

We really do have the talent, right now, to be better than we are. The problem is the scheme. It's seriously effective when executed perfectly, but the execution isn't there.
We need to take a long, hard look at how we utilize our talent. A rushing attack out of the shotgun like Auburn's would be easier to manage. It's simpler but still uses most of the types of guys we have. GT, with the right OC and HC, could have been a 9/10 win team this year.

Recruiting rankings:

2013: 72
2012: 59
2011: 46
2010: 41
2009: 32
One could argue you are overachieving due to Paul Johnson and his system.

Very true. Do his players even like him? He comes across as a huge dick

Paul Johnson the coach has done a great job at GT, but man oh man he's been a horrible recruiter. There is no excuse for them being completely void of talent at the FB position.

Well, most immediately it should have been Brendan Douglas at FB for the Trade School, but Georgia offered on NSD Eve and Buzz Lightyear told CPJ (offensive super genius) "thanks, but no."

It is respectable. I mean it is Arkansas' ceiling so at least it isn't horrible

The triple option strikes me as an offense smaller/less talented schools use to level the playing field.
Navy, Georgia Southern, etc.
It works against lesser talent but tends to get shut down against equally or greater talented teams. Thus...6 or 7 win seasons. I just can't understand how its beneficial to be extremely limited throwing the ball. If a team jumps out to a decent lead, GT is fricked. IMO, GT could find more success if they ran a traditional offense.

Stanford has "athletic friendly majors" but they also have a massive recruiting budget and nationally recruit. I doubt Tech has anywhere close to that budget.

O'Leary won a share of the title with FSU in 1998 but the Noles had the tiebreaker for BCS purposes.

CPJ will never be successful as long as UGA is able to continously out recruit him...call it scheme, call it whatever...the talent level is not where it needs to be in order to compete..as someone mentioned, this is not Navy nor GSU...he did well at those schools but to comete year in and year out with Clemson, FSU, Miami, VT, etc. he has to get the best players in the state...that he is not doing and won't

I don't think GT has to outrecruit UGA to be successful. They need better recruiting, but success for GT at this point is competing for the ACC and Jan 1 bowls, neither of which require them to outdo UGA.
