It's funny how things change.
I was more positive towards Ingram than most, but even I had lost faith in him at the end of the last season.

Our first round running back averaged 3.9 ypc his first two seasons, which looked even worse compared to the other backs on the roster.

But this season, these are how our RB's have rushed:
Sproles 4.2 ypc
Thomas 3.7 ypc
Robinson 4.1 ypc
Ingram 4.9 ypc

Obviously, ypc doesn't tell the whole story.
But it's interesting to see this (Jamaal Charles has 5.0 ypc).

It kills me that Payton keeps yanking him out.
It's like the opposite of past years, when he played Ingram ad nauseam even though we all knew he wouldn't perform.

The problem is the lack of talent in the offensive line. Left tackle and center are problems. In addition, perhaps the line is not well coached or the scheme is flawed. I think that the backs are all decent players.

This doesn't help explain the odd way in which SP used Ingram.

Definitely agree that he was really showing flashes towards the end. Biggest problem is that Payton just will not commit to a running game.

I agree. You see how many times Drew Brees was sacked and hit this year. As well as the saints failing to run the ball the majority of the season when SeanPayton did try and run it. That just shows the lack of talent. The tackle and center spots need to be addressed this offseason. I wouldnt be against using our first and second rounders on OL.

On a side note, its dumb that Evans and Grubbs are pro bowlers this year. I just cant quite understand that.

Ingram ran with more passion beginning mid season or so and it was noticable.

Yeah. You know, Ingram gets stopped at the line. but when he doesn't, he tends to get a good amount of yardage and is hard to bring down.

So his stats might be even better next season if we block better.

as you said tho ypc does not really tell the whole story. charles at 5 a carry is incredible considering how many touches he gets and teams know he is the offense.

He turned it around.

Having said that, I'd take a 4th for him during the offseason.

PT ran a bunch in that game too.

Didn't help his ypc much.

You could see the decline in PT when it comes to running this year. Because of that, hell no to trading him. Ingram has been playing well when he gets the calls

The problem is getting 5 yards on first down then going to the shotgun and 12 wr sets for tge next eleventy plays. Payton is damn near the second best coach in the nfl but he drives me insane how impatient he is with the running game.

Only thing I can figure is that Ingram drops every dang pass in practice and edits himself from CSP's playbook.

I don't think Ingram is the long term answer for the Saints. But give the guy credit. On the few carries he has gotten lately he has been running with effort and passion. I think he has earned a few more carries per game than what he is currenly getting.

I hope next year we have a bigger commitment to running the ball. We need to alleviate some of the rush on Brees plus play action is a huge part of our offensive success.

Offensive line needs to get more a push tho

I wouldn't have a problem with it if he called more draw plays (or if Brees audibled into them) like the TD against the Bucs on 3rd and 6ish. The problem is, Payton loves him some empty back sets, which totally takes out the guessing game for the defense. He does that shite in short yardage situations as well.

And agreed on Ingram playing with passion. Dude looks insane any time he has a good play. I like it. I like PT and Sproles but Ingram needs to be getting more carries than he has been.

i thought that too, but he's been targeted 9 times this year and caught 7. One blatantly missed reception, and the other one I don't even remember. doesn't seem like he drops much if at all in limited snaps.
