Are these guys any better than the scabs from last season's first few games? Every week we have horrible calls.

Although tonight's big error didn't effect the outcome, ultimately; we should be able to expect a crew to keep time. And expect a ref or judge on the field to recognize a 20 second lapse.

Could Red have challenged that penalty?

They cost the steelers a playoff spot with a blown Call on the fg.

I wouldn't say they are as bad as they scab refs.

obviously not, and we have no reason to believe it would've affected the outcome of the game.

Here's an idea, instead of having refs on the field, which also get in the way of players at times, have a bunch of refs watching the game from every camera angle deemed necessary and if they can't figure out the correct call at first sight they hit an extension button to review to make the correct call

Nah. As a Steelers fan, they deserve it with their shitty start and some of the teams they lost to. But it is pretty frustrating these frickers get paid this much $ and miss the most simple calls.

They showed on the SNF post game where the refs blew a call on the FG that could have won the game for KC and knocked SD out of the playoffs. SD had 7 players lined up to the right side. NFL rules stipulate no more than 6 to a side. SD should have been penalized and KC would have had a chance to re--kick.

I personally give the refs some slack because the action
is happening so fast that you can't catch everything except from the comfort of your couch with slo-mo replay. It's when they frick up calls that get reviewed that's really bad.

counting the number of people lined up on one side of the center on a field goal is not exactly rocket science. that shite cost the steelers a playoff spot

It was pretty damn obvious how fast the play clock ran

I understand this. But the SD/KC FG infraction would have been caught by simply counting the number of defenders. These guys need to start being fined for some of these simple miscues. Misses like that are ridiculous for their pay.

Mistakes like this, they should be able to say they made a mistake and redo it before the play, easily and pick up the flag.
Instead they think oh well we've made the call already you'll have to deal with it.

Because they have to officiate the games in a new way taking into account a bunch of vague regulations that have no defined boundaries

How about the fumble by Weddle they blew off? SD got some serious help today.

The FG infraction is not vague at all. You can't have more than 6 defenders on one side of the long snapper. SD clearly had 7. There was nothing vague about it. The refs obviously ignored checking it.

What's vague about seven?

The center isn't easily defined?

I still don't get what happened there. I never heard a whistle before the fumble. He clearly wasn't down and his helmet was still on when he lost the ball.
