Ok... I grew up fishing and have been a saltwater fanatic my whole life but recently went duck hunting and absolutely love it. Why it took me 35 years to go is beyond me. Can the OB direct me on a good 12 gauge for me and what I could expect to pay ?

An 870 express magnum is pretty much the standard first duck hunting gun.
Around $300 new.

Auto: Probably go with the Beretta Xtrema 2 or the new A5, heard its an excellent gun.

870 Express is the beginning shotgun for any application.

For a pump? Yes. The new 870's aren't like the old ones. And f$%k Remington.

Remington 870 ($300) or Benelli Nova ($400) for a pump.
Semi autos:
Benelli Super Black Eagle II or beretta Extrema 2 $1300, Browning A5 $1400, or Remington Versa Max or $900

As others have said, get a Remington 870. Can be used for deer, duck, dove, hogs, turkey, squirrels, rabbit, burglars, skeet, old glass bottles, and boyfriends of a teenage daughter

870 is fine for a duck gun.

Agree with everyone that recommends the Remington 870....there is no more dependable gun around and it is cheap as hell to boot...if it doesn't have screw in chokes, get modified or maybe even improved cylinder, if your shooting is close in (I.e. flooded timber)...also, most shoot 3 1/2" but I still shoot 3" and kill as much as anyone....
I wouldn't go all out, but you will eventually need some waders as well as a raincoat....might be worth a trip up to Simmons n Bastrop unless you can borrow some of that.
