Please, someone tell me how this place is still in business.
Went last night with older family members and I cannot begin to tell you how awful the entire dinner was.
We split the Shrip Dinner Complete. The shrimp étouffée would rival something that lean cuisine would make, it literally was the worst excuse for étouffée I've ever seen.
Their broiled shrimp was anemic and the stuffed shrimp was downright nasty.
Their seafood gumbo was basically dark colored water with rice.
The only redeeming quality were the hush puppies (slightly above average) and their diet coke was solid. Aside from that, what a terrible experience.

The one in Gonzales is decent. I take many a clients and employees to eat there regularly.

Sounds like you're just trying to compare it with some of your favorite places in Shreveport....

Scratch that one off my list of a "solid' restaurant.

We went there just before St. Patrick's Day. I can't remember anything about the meal, so that means it was mediocre, the service was bad (we sat at the bar) and it smelled bad in there. The only good thing was the four Old Fashion glasses we stuffed in my wife's purse.
I think the place stays open because there are people that don't know there are better seafood places in BR

Might have been a bad night, but Don's seafood gumbo is typically great

Maybe. But I'll be honest with you it was disturbing to see a restaurant serve patrons such a disgusting meal.

I went there last week, the fist time in 5 years I guess.
Had an Old fashion, Dozen oysters, Hush Puppies and the Seafood gumbo. They were all as good as I remember.
I learned 5 years ago most everything else on the menu was disappointing sorry to say.
The service was OK at best.

It does a good lunch business because of Exxon, Entergy, etc. As a business lunch type of place, it's pretty much the best that area has to offer.
Time restraints, traffic considerations, etc. keep people going there.

I used to go to Don's one for thing. Crawfish Bisque. It was good for restaurant bisque. Last time I stopped in, they had changed the recipe. Pure crap. I'll be driving on by now.

I remember it being decent when I went there with my family for special occasions. That was when I was six and seven years old. I'm 39 now.

My sister decided to have a birthday party for my dad there last year. I agree with the fact that it is now gross.

I was invited to the one in Denham a while back. It was exceptionally terrible.

Don's is absolutely terrible. I'm almost positive that the last time I went (which will be the last time that I go), I was served frozen, pre-breaded fried shrimp.
There is no excuse to go to Don's in Gonzales when Mike Anderson's is right down the road. Yes, the Mike Anderson's in Gonzales is actually pretty good.
I'd rather go hungry than eat at Don's ever again. ANY Don's.

I wholeheartedly agree. It literally is one of the worst food establishments I've ever set foot in.
