Now that Bill O'Brien has left for Houston, who becomes Penn State's top target?

Adam Schefter is reporting the Texans and Bill O'Brien are negotiating a deal. Obviously this does not mean he will go, but if he does who does Penn State target? Al Golden? Also, does this mean Texas and Penn State will be battling for the same high profile coach?

Al Golden. Doubt he'll go though. He's almost done rebuilding the U through NCAA mess, not sure why he'd start over that process again.

You're joking right? What high profile coach that Texas wants would go to Penn St instead at any time, much less when they're under the NCAA cloud they are?

should be schiano, but will it.

he's been the guy waiting in the wings to take over the program for close to a decade. Be perfect time to leave Buccs, sure Glazers would like a clean break.

Mark May for what its worth says that they would definitely go after Golden that in his opinion a lot more to offer from PSU than at the Univ of Miami.

NCAA has already started easing many of the bogus sanctions on Penn State. I would not be surprised if the NCAA declared Penn State bowl eligible for next season.

Like what? Recruiting base is way better in South Florida. But most importantly though Penn St still has a couple years left of crippling NCAA penalties. Golden just fought through all that at Miami, I don't see why he'd want to do it again. Schiano seems more likely to me, if he's smart he'll bolt while he can before getting canned next year.

I know they've backed off some, but they're still way short on scholarships and that takes time to get back from. And there's no guarantee that they get any more relief, although like you I think they will.

Hard to argue with what either of them have done at the college level. What Schiano did at Rutgers was very impressive for sure.

i respect what he did in Tampa, got rid of a cancer, put his foot in these pro football, whiner arses , and they started playing solid football.

After all of the whining and crying, and the freeman debacle, the team came together under him and played their best ball. And at times, looked really good, considering the lack of talent at positions.

Again , im just saying what May said and i certainly agree with you that he's in better shape at Miami as far as sanctions but what May was saying that he can go to the Big 10 where he will play in sell out crowds in Happy Valley as opposed to at Miami and he and Holtz said that even though Miami has upgraded their facilities, i.e. weight room film room etc. they are still way behind most other big time schools. Again Im not disagreewing with your points , just passing on May's points.

Golden would probably be the top target.

Darkhorse would be Greg Roman in my opinion.

Oh I know, I didn't really direct that response at you. Sometimes I just react too quickly to dumb stuff Mark May says to clarify that. I know you weren't the one saying that

Munchak makes a lot of sense. A guy with NFL experience who is an alum. Also, I don't think Tennessee would put up a fight to keep him from leaving.

I don't know, Penn State has to be thrilled with where they are right now. Nobody thought they'd be in as good of shape as they are. They had to know that if they're in this good of shape after a couple of years, O'Brien would have the chance to go elsewhere. I'm sure they're more than pleased with the work he put in and where he has the program.
