Watched way way back last night.
Excellent movie. Rockwell was hilarious. I wanted to punch Carel in the dick.

Hoping to get it watched tonight.
For anyone that hasn't seen The Spectacular Now it comes out Jan 14th to rent, can only buy it right now. If you liked Adventureland, Perks of being a Wallflower, it is a MUST watch.

Finally watched TWWB, really really good movie.
Enjoyed it a lot, and yeah frick Carrell about as big a douche as one could write up and he played the role really well (imagine that).
AnnaSophia Robb is smoking too, damn. Her eyes are amazing.
Also, The Spectacular Now is out today at RedBox and I believe Amazon Instant Video as well as DirecTV/Dish and well yeah pretty much everywhere. Watch it.
Want to get some more views/opinions on it, it's an absolute gem and must watch IMO.

But the whole movie felt like a giant, great cliche' of awesome to me though. It's cliche' in all the best ways, I guess. I fricking loved TWWB. Thought it was one of the better movies I saw last year. Just a fantastic trip back to when you were that age and all the feelings and emotions that exist in that time. Even though it didn't really line up with my childhood, I still felt like it was a great trip down memory lane, if that makes sense.
And Rockwell was awesome. I didn't even hate Maya Rudolph, and I usually want to slap the shite out of her.

Right on Coco! There's a reason that some cliche's exist, because they have elements of universal truth. In a post-modern world that tries hard to deconstruct and re-invent, it's refreshing to sometimes return to simple truths which are often captured in old cliches.
Every character doesn't have to display an ironic twist in order to feel authentic. Rockwell plays a friendly, playful guy who takes an interest in an awkward and brooding teenager. As a post-modern audience, we wait expectantly for Rockwell's character to have ulterior motives, or some other odd twist to the relationship, but it doesn't come. Instead, he's just a good guy helping a troubled teen have confidence in himself.
What a relief! There are still good people in the world. That's a world that I know and love, and to remember that makes me feel nostalgic, which is a bittersweet notion itself.

Yep. My wife and I watched both movies after I discovered them on the Board. She preferred SN and I preferred WWB. The tipping point for me was Rockwell. I don't understand why this guy is not in more movies.

IMO The Way Way Back was good, but it wasn't phenomenal. It's about what you would expect. I didn't leave the movie feeling strongly about the main character and nothing about it really deviated from the "coming of age" norm.
Sam Rockwell was strong- definitely steals the show.

Yeah I mean I enjoyed TWWB, but for me it wasn't even that close to Spectacular Now, the chemistry between Teller and Woodley was just too good.
