Pole and reel were under water for 5 minutes

So on top of a HORRIBLE fishing trip w/ my folks on Xmas eve...my dad laid my pole down in the back of the boat to keep his minnow on the hook and in the bait well...well driving along and my pole flies out of the boat. The only thing that saved it was the line was stuck in the bait well. After 5 minutes of pulling in line I was able to fish my pole/reel out of the Myrtle Grove waters. I doused it in a bottle of water and hosed it down when I got home. What else should I do?
It's only an $80 reel. Should I take it somewhere?

Oil it up and you should be good to go
If reels were ruined by getting wet, fishing would be a pain

I'm sure it'll be fine. The only issues I've ever seen have been with corrosion on certain types of fly reel mechanisms that require a more thorough disassembly and hose down.

should be fine... if you start having some issues take it to someone who cleans reels. If you are in baton rouge you can take it to superior tackle. They have a quick turn around

Oh ok your good..... rinse with water hose
Do not spray it hard just let the water run over it. Where in Myrtle Grove? If you were fishing by the camps thats more brackish anyway

I tried those deadend canals near Round Lake. Worst fishing trip ever. Kept running into SHALLOW water 200 yards from land. Couldn't find clean water to save my life. not a single nibble/bite

And a lot of pipes that will eat your lower unit...
What kind of boat are you running in there?

I use cheapo zebco's in saltwater before. A good hose down and they are fine. I hardly fish salt though.
My gear is probably the worst taken care of gear out there, that's why I buy old zebco' brand.

Dropping my reel in salt water never hurt it...

Best to fill a 5 gallon bucket with fresh water. Put the reel in and out it a bunch of times. Leave it out in the sun to dry.
Never force water from a hose into them. That will force salt into the grease of the reels.

Spray down with reel magic
do you just spray the reel with it and let it sit, or wipe off?
ps: DON'T dunk your reels in a chlorine swimming pool regularly as a cleaning method. the gaskets swell up and the reel quits working. personal experience i wanted to pass along.
