What a travesty it will be when the Cards miss the playoffs at 11-5. If the panthers lose next week... San Fran, Carolina, and New Orleans will all be tied at 11-5, with the tiebreakers leaving the Arizona the odd team out. The Cards will have beaten 2 of those teams and all together 4 teams (depending on whether Indy wins this week) with 11-5 records or better (SF, Car, @Seattle, and Indy). That's tied with Indy for the most in the NFL. Incredible. To think that joke of a team over in Texas could make it over a team that will have won 8 of it's last 9 games... what a shame it will be.

Please fix the playoff format Goodell...

If this were a regularly occurring event, you would have a case that the system is broken and thus needs fixing. But it isn't and doesn't.

Didn't the Patriots win 11 games a few years back and get left out?

I guess after 2008 when we made it to the Superbowl as the "worst team to ever make the playoffs" (that is before 7-9 Seattle came along) I can only chalk it up as Karma.

Yes. The 8-8 Chargers won the West and made it (and beat the Colts in the WC round).

The 1985 Broncos are the only other team to win 11 games and not make the plaoffs (since the 16-game schedule started in 1978).

best 6 records go to the playoffs?

fwiw Im fine with the current system other than wanting it tweeked just a bit. The division winners can still be autolocks but I think the playoffs should be seeded by record. So 7-9 seahawks would have never hosted that game.

My solution: the division leader with the 4th best record amongst divisions can be surpassed by a 3rd wild card team IF that wild card team has a better record.

That way the playoffs will field teams that are all pretty much deserving an none will get left out. It neither penalizes teams for being in an EXTREMELY tough division, that is the NFC West.
