1st rounder and two late rounders from smaller schools with potential.

Grab a couple LBs with the 2nd and 3rd picks as well. Watching these 49er LBs makes me jealous.

Sorry, we need to get a veteran in at LT. You won't have much of a better year next year with a rookie playing that position, plus we should be picking 25+, so not really going to be those immediate impact LTs left by then.

this. people forget that you don't fill needs in the draft, you do that in free agency

Agreed. I don't know when people will understand that we go into every draft taking the BPA, not "we have to take this position in this round, and this other position in this other round." If you're using the draft to fill needs, then you aren't preparing to win for another few years. Did everyone forget we completely ignored DE/OLB until the 6th round last year?

That's completely oversimplifying.

Vaccaro was the biggest position of need on the entire team.

Drew needs to restructure his salary and get that LT we need. That would be money well spent on his part

Im sorry, but when you change line coaches, the players stay mostly the same, i think its less of a reflection on the players and more reflection on the coaching. Get a center or tackle in the draft, get a good oline coach.

Anyone have a list of the top LT free agents for the upcoming offseason?

We need Tackle, Cornerback, Center, Guard, Linebacker.

Was he? You could argue LT was, or even OLB/DE even with the unproven Butler and Galette. Even if safety was the biggest position of need, I am sure that wasn't the reason we took Vaccaro. What if wasn't ready to play his rookie year like he did? Look at Robinson and Jenkins, neither of them played in their rookie year as much as Vaccaro did.

I just don't see playoff teams that are championship caliber drafting based on needs. Maybe round 1, sure. But my original comment was more to the people who say "We need to go CB round 1, OT round 2, LB Round 3, Center Round 4, etc.", like that 3rd round LB or 4th round Center is going to get playing time this year or even the next, or even be on the team in 2-3 years down the road.

It was still a pretty big position of need. Really, draft goes BPA of a position of need in the early rounds, unless there is incredible value at a particular pick.

It was, and I haven't argued other wise. I know that if there are similar graded players, the nod goes to position of need, but we always draft the player with the highest grade left on the board. Like I said, my point was to the fans that say which position we need to take in each rounds, in order of needs. These are the same fans that lose their shite during the draft when we draft a TE in 3rd, or a WR in the 5th.

Agreed. Just adding some clarification. You increase your odds on missing out on great players if you draft purely based off of need.

If memory serves Jenkins and Harper were the two worst rated starting safeties in the entire league on PFF. Not as if that's the end all be all granted, but under Spags, by at least one measure, we literally had the two worst safeties in the NFL.

There should be a quality OT where we pick in the first.

After that, we need C, WR, CB, LB

Don't forget, we will probably pick up an OL or two in free agency. Draft a couple, but we also need a deep threat.
