Delayed Background check

Have any of you ever went to purchase a gun and had your background check flagged for a delay not allowing you to take gun home that day? What are the possible reasons for this delay?
I was trying to buy a gun from Cabela's on Sunday and after waiting for about 30 minutes the lady came back and reported that there was a delay and I would have to come pick the gun up on a different date. She gave me the FBI's customer service number and told me to call and they could give me the info. I called and the lady I spoke to said she could confirm the delay but was not allowed to tell me the reason why. The only thing I could think of was that I am from out of state (MS).
Pretty annoying b/c I have a Cabela's gift card for a substantial amount and really want to purchase the gun from there and now have to drive 2.5 hours each way to Cabela's after my background check goes through.

it may come through or it could just be left as "open" status...
as much as I hate to recommend it...you should put your SSN on there for future purchases...sometimes it will prevent a delay...
reason being that there could be someone else named john doe in MS that has a questionable background...the SSN may just be the only thing that may differentiate the two of you...

My dad gets delayed every time because some Mexican drug cartel guy has the same name. Oddly enough, I don't. Did get delayed for a few hours getting a western union check once

It's seems kind of random--my husband said sometimes it just feels like you're tagged "it". His name is not common at all (so not likely another person with a similar name), and he got flagged for an extended check a few years ago. It doesn't always happen to him though, as he's walked out of stores with gun in hand the same day too.

Guess I just got tagged and have to suck it up and make the drive. I'll be damned if I make that drive and don't come back with a few extra toys IMO

Just picked up one for my son and one for the wife this afternoon. I have never had to wait. Took literally 5 minutes.

Every gun I have ever purchased as Bass Pro or Cabela's I get this "hold".
I've been told it is becuase I had worked in a federal prison.
Anyway, went to a Mom & Pop shop beginning of the year and purchased a Ruger 556 and had no issues. Been back a few times and have not had the issue.

Never had any wait of any time. My form 3 being the exception.

I used to never get delayed. Long gun or handgun I always left with it the same day. A year ago I got a DUI and chose to do the Pre-Trial program. Been delayed every time ever since. FBI never calls the FFL back, but after 3 days I have always been able to pick up. I think it is because my case is technically still 'open' when you look at it on paper. In a month when I complete the program and the DUI is wiped from my record I hope I go back to never being delayed.
If you get delayed regularly consider getting a NICS "Unique Personal Identification Number" (google it). It should take care of the problem.

Every nics check I run the last few days have been delayed. Busy
