Why wasn't Anthony Jennings recruited more heavily by other schools?

I just checked his offers list on a whim and aside from Oregon, LSU was the only "top-tier" football program that offered him. He had a lot of offers from second-tier programs like Virginia Tech and Nebraska, but none of the SEC heavyweights went after him. He's obviously talented, we've seen that. And it's not like he was poorly rated, either... granted he wasn't a 5* or anything, but it just seems weird that he would go under the radar like he seems to have.

Too small, and a weak arm. Scouts don't notice the intangibles like Les does.

He really blew up his senior season as well, and by that time, he was firmly committed to LSU.

He was an Elite 11 QB

I think he was recognized as Legit

the real question I have is, why did UGA pass on him...

Alabama basically missed on Winston.. It happens

They already decided on their QB in that particular class.

I remember Trent Dilfer raving about him at one the the QB camps held in Atlanta that he helped run saying he was the best of the group.

ETA: Jennings was not committed to LSU yet.

UGA had there man in Brice Ramsey. And at this point, who knows who will be better. However, Ramsey was more highly recruited and a situation that they couldn't pass on.

They never offered anthony though and I believe he would have been all theirs if they did.

Everyone is right.

*Torn ACL
*Other schools either got who they wanted or made a play for Winston.
*Jennings did what you want all kids to do. Make a decision and stick with it.

Jennings pretty much said this in multiple interviews.

This was one of those situations that just worked out well for LSU...the pieces just fell into place.
Most of the major programs went after Winston, while UGA landed Ramsey early...leaving Jennings as a backburner recruit for most of the top-tier programs in the area. LSU jumped right in and pressed from the get go and I mean early.
By the time the dust settled with Winston and a few other "higher-rated" recruits, Jennings was all LSU.

Winston and Jennings weren't in the same class.

Yeah where is this Winston crap coming from? Winston is RS Freshman this year who played on FSU's baseball team last spring. AJ is a true Freshman. There are tons of legit reasons why LSU was lucky enough to land AJ, but schools slobbering over Winston was not one of them.

Same reason they passed on Kelvin Sheppard and Perry Riley. Obviously wasn't good enough to play at an elite SEC school

Most schools do just like LSU does with in-state talent... you only offer if you for sure are going to take and honor the commitment. When UGA got Ramsey, it became a numbers game. So no offer. If he had been from OOS, they would have offered.

I know his father. What it boils down to is, he didn't really hit the radar til his senior year. Really grew into himself. He hadn't been a QB for his entire life and only started that at HS level. Went to a camp where he got huge notice and LSU snapped him up. He really wanted to go to UGA but, UGA had already committed to others.

Kid just really wasn't like some of these others that everyone spots as sophomores and watches grow. He was a late bloomer.
