Super agent Scott Boras said it again — New Jersey would make a great home for a major league baseball team.

But, Boras said, the Yankees and Mets would have a problem with anyone trying to bring one to the Garden State.

"In the New Jersey and New York area," Boras said at the Winter Meetings at The Dolphin resort, "it's always a place that, TV rights-wise, and such" would attract the attention of potential franchise owners. "I'm sure Hal (Steinbrenner) and Jeff (Wilpon) would have some issues with that."

It's the second time Boras has suggested New Jersey as a potential landing spot for a team.

At the General Manager Meetings in October, Boras said Jersey residents might appreciate a winning team like the Tampa Bay. The Rays have been among the league's best teams over recent years, but have ranked among the lowest in attendance.

Though New Jersey would make a good home, Boras said, a return to Montreal would make the most sense. The Expos jettisoned Canada, becoming the Washington Nationals in 2005.

"I think Montreal would be a tremendous environment for baseball," Boras said, surrounded by reporters. "I remember in 1994 — when you look at the attendance rates and the Canadian rivalry in baseball, I really think baseball was in a good place. Players enjoyed playing there. It's a beautiful city."

No to both. I never understood why anyone thought/thinks NJ needs their own sports teams

That's what I mean though, everybody is either a Philly or Ny fan, putting a baseball team there makes no sense

The NYC area supported three MLB teams when the city was a shithole.

NL team in Montreal, AL team in Newark...it would work. Both teams would be successful.

Also NJ has 9million people, and the state is about as big as Greater New Orleans.

Boras has only one interest, his clients' and as by product, himself. He wants more teams so that he can more leverage to market his clients to more and more teams. He could care less about the good of the game, let alone individual cities.

Portland and Vegas then maybe Montreal and Vancouver. Jersey would never work everyone is already a Phillies or Yankees fan.

But teams should not be added, contract the Padres, Pirates, and Astros and relocate the Rays(to Vegas) and make Portland an expansion team

Pirates

One of the original 16, 125 years of tradition, best stadium in baseball, great nucleus of young talent, and the team that featured all time greats like Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell, and Honus Wagner.

And why would you contract a team and then add an expansion team?

Terrible fan support(even last year) and obviously the situation with the stadiums makes all of this fantasy.

Because an expansion franchise would have a better chance of immediate success than any of the 3 contracted franchises would.

Honestly I think New Orleans would be better than both.

Rays are a winner and Louisiana people fricking love a winner.

I would love a MLB team in NOLA but we don't have enough population and corporate base. I do think people would embrace it though. How does the New Orleans Dukes sound?

Montreal didn't support the Expos, and Vancouver doesn't support anything. I'd give Portland a team before Vancouver.
