...only Memphis, Sacramento, and Utah have worse records.

The west is just so loaded. Plus we're young and injured with an average coach.

Right at or below .500 is more than likely where we're gonna be this year, but there's plenty of potential for our core.

There's no excuse for that when you've got AD playing like he is and making small time cash like he is

I think time to gel is an excuse. We have to quit acting like how this team plays now is how it will play if they can string 20+ completely healthy games together. What I'm worried about is we keep going like we're going to about 30-35, and then finish off the season strong 14-3 but still just miss the playoffs. What do you do with that? Assume they finally get it and keep Monty based on one hot streak?

Well the last 15 games of the season looks like:

@ ATL
vs MIA
vs BKLN
vs LAC
vs UTAH
@ SAS
vs SAC
@ DEN
@ UTAH
@ POR
vs PHX
@ OKC
@ HOU
vs OKC
vs HOU

I'd be pretty damn happy to drop 3 or less of those games

I watched the timberwolves play in those stupid jerseys last night. They didn't look all that great.

Yep.

Very easy to call a slow start for this team. The key is can they figure things out in the coming months.

Come on now. You'd rather the team lose than keep Monty? You may have gone full Rantard.

Everyone wants to win now. The roster has potential, but, unfortunately, team building takes time.

Of course not. I just want the next step to be a black and white decision. Karl is lobbying hard for the job, if we pass him up it should be because Monty earns the right to be here several more years, not because the team got hot at the right time and then finds out we gave Monty one year too many.

And how do we tell the difference?

By starting to win more consistently now preferably or not getting on a lucky hot streak at the end. I don't want them to lose, I just don't want to bet on fools gold. Hopefully we'll know when we see it.

Talent wise, Memphis is better than us. Sacramento might be up there too now that they have Gay. Lakers are worse than Utah though

Why do the Suns, Nuggets, and Lakers have better records than us?

Suns have an underrated squad, Nuggets still have homecourt advantage, Lakers are bad. I can't understand how they've won 13 games.

We've underperformed to this point in my opinion. The laughable early schedule should have put us somewhere around 15-9 right now, instead of 11-13.

This is fascinating to me in a good, interesting way.

What were your expectations for this team before the season? Have they changed since the games began? If so, how have they changed?

If we have lucky hot streaks, can we have unlucky cold streaks?

My preseason expectations were 6-10 in West. Now I'll be content with 10th place. There's no way this squad makes the playoffs this year, schedule is just too rough the rest of the way.

Yeah. I thought 50 wins and a 6 seed were the ultimate best case, everything goes perfectly scenario. Realistically, I was hoping for about 42 wins and a top 20 defense.

Still a lot of time left. They're only 2.5 games out of the 8 seed. I always thought the team would start slow and then pick it up before the ASB.

I've seen enough good things that I still think they can pull it off. But they need some wins v .500 teams very, very soon and they need to stay healthy.

They are right around where I expected them to be. I wish they could have taken those games against the Mavs and Pacers but outside of that thy are who I thought they would be around now.

I can see them winning a big game here and there, but I really think SA, OKC, Port, GS, Hou could be sweeps. They're reallllly good, and we're just pretty good.

This isn't about meeting expectations, this is about Anthony Davis' timeline, different paths being available that weren't available in the past, and Monty continuing to fail to show he's anything special. If we finish strong because we execute well that's one thing, but if we finish strong because we're healthy when other teams aren't and teams are resting starters for the playoffs, then the record doesn't tell the whole story. Like I said, we'll hopefully know it when we see it.

He's been very, very good. But he's still a year away from being the best player on a good team. Figuring out what type of players he needs is a lot of what the next couole of years are about.

Like what? Not a knock. Legit question. What are you thinking?

because we execute well that's one thing

This is the key for this season. Developing consistent, good 2 way play. Even if they lose, we need to be looking for signs that they are getting it.

The key thing to remember IMO is that everyone- players and coaches- is still learning. And while that is happening, the FO is evaluating all of it.
